Still waiting for that trickle down I see.

I wish the GOP actually wanted to go back to the 50s. When we had insanely high taxes on the rich.

The 1950s I assume you mean, rather than the 1850s which is pretty much common Republican policy nowadays.

Short term smart move on their part. But this will all but cripple their stranglehold on politics in the long run.

Corporations will take advantage of this, obviously, but they'll need highly educated people to fulfill the jobs required, which will make Missouri a more desirable place to live by proxy, and ultimately more blue in the long run.

actually I think there's a pretty good argument to be made for eliminating corporate taxes.

  1. they're regressive, corporations just end up passing on their tax costs to consumers, which hurts the poor most of all
  2. corporate taxes discourage business investment, reducing innovation and prospereity
  3. large corporations exploit loopholes and often end up paying 0% in taxes anyway

i would trade a 0% corporate tax rate for like a 60% tax rate on top earners. i think low corporate tax, low capital gains tax, strong progressive income tax is probably the best of all worlds. so i can't fault missouri on this.

corporate taxes are only like 5% of US revenue. i think the economic growth and development from losing that 5% would create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, lifting a lot of people out of poverty. with the new income that would generate, it would probably pay for itself. it would make the economy more productive, help the USA keep its technological edge, help repatriate some of the jobs that have shifted overseas, and safeguard american companies from buyout by foreign adversaries (e.g. china).

The first and third points seem more "they found a way to avoid responsibility" rather than "reasons they shouldn't have responsibility". If someone is expected to complete a chore but finds ways make someone else do it/avoid it we don't say "it's fine, forget about it".

Your second point seems a broad generalization - do you have evidence that reducing their taxes to 0 would have a significant impact on innovation and "prosperity"?

i agree trickle down economics is bullshit. ideally i think top earners should be taxed at like 65-75%.

keep corporate taxes low to encourage investment in the united states, keep personal income taxes high to discourage robber barons from looting companies to stuff their own wallets (e.g. bain capital)

do you think it's great that anytime someone has a different opinion than you, you shut them down quite rudely.

maybe the world we live in isn't simple and uncomplicated. maybe virtue can exist outside of left-wing orthodoxy and right-wing orthodoxy. maybe it isn't great to turn politics into performative outrage for no reason, posturing so you can earn popularity points from other anonymous posters on a message board.
