Rules: If you list more than 4 things I'm gonna just pick the first 4 you say when I do the tally. If you list the same character multiple times I'm going to count it as 1 vote. Be nice to others and their potentially bad opinions. Don't shove your personal definition of "Mount Rushmore" down others' throats. Don't take this topic series too seriously. If you're going to change a vote please quote your old vote to make it easier for me.

YESTERDAY: Not much of a struggle for Shenron, who dominated up until the end when things started pivoting towards more Western dragons. Smaug closed the gap significantly but couldn't quite snatch first.

Blue Eyes and Toothless were pretty dominant until the Dragonite votes stopped and the Chairzard votes started rolling in. Simialrly, Bahamut didn't really pick up steam until half way through the day. Trogdor got a very late start and may have actually made it on the Rushmore if someone had brought him up earlier.

Three-way tie for 4th! Go vote above!

Brady and Montana are self-explanatory. Peyton is a bit of personal bias, but I've never seen a QB who could do what he did. Unitas deserves some credit as the prototype for the modern QB.

I considered John Elway and Dan Marino because I think they're both kinda underappreciated, but there's just not enough room for them. Aaron Rodgers deserves consideration, too, regardless of what you think of him personally.

Mahomes will probably be on here eventually, but not yet.

Based on technical skills, number of rings/MVPs, and lack of on-field controversies. (One of those had an off-field thing, something unrelated to his play. Brady... had multiple controversies related to things that most assuredly helped him win. Not a fan of having an asterisk by somebody.)

The only thing you can directly link to Brady is Deflategate, which is a silly thing to hold against him and act like that's the reason he won seven Super Bowls.

If you don't want him on there because you don't like him, that's fine. Don't try to act like he's Barry Bonds or something though.

Drew Brees

Tough call between Brees and Elway, but I went with Brees because I think the guy was severely underrated due to being on a small-market team. Also considered Rodgers, Unitas, and Mahomes.

KamikazePotato posted...

Didn't consider Brady because the guy was a checkdown merchant who never won anything without a Top 8 defense. He was the most marketable QB in NFL history, no doubt, but not the best. He wasn't even considered an elite QB until years after his teams won three Super Bowls. Only when the guy had elite weapons like Moss, Welker, and Gronk, was he deemed elite.

Some other things to remember:
  • Year after year, he enjoyed 5+ easy wins in the laughable AFC East
  • Matt Cassel, who never started a single game in college at QB, won 11 games after stepping in for an injured Brady in 2008
  • Jimmy G and Jacoby Brissett went 3-1 during Brady's 4-game suspension in 2016.
  • Brady's Gronk-era stats show a significant dropoff when Gronk was injured. You can also look at Brady's three years in Tampa and see that the Bucs had two strong seasons when Gronk played, but had a losing season after Gronk retired.
  • The 2023 Bucs won more games (and a playoff game) with Baker Mayfield than the 2022 Bucs won with Brady
  • Brady couldn't win the biggest game of his career, the 2007 Super Bowl

And I haven't even touched on the astounding number of conveniently timed penalties that he's benefited from in important games (ask any Steelers fan, they know) or the baffling playcalls by opposing coaches that enabled Brady to win big games (Seahawks throwing on the 1 yard line, Falcons throwing while up 8 in FG range).

And since he was the most marketable player in NFL history, you typically weren't allowed to hit him because the league didn't want its favorite product getting injured (Check the flopping meme of Brady against the Jets or the 2022 "roughing the passer" call against the Falcons for examples).

Brady was a good QB who was smart with the football and led a number of clutch drives throughout career. I will give him that. But he also benefited from a Hall of Fame coach, elite defenses, elite playmakers, elite offensive lines, weak divisional opponents, and many shady penalties in critical moments. Is he a Hall of Fame QB? Absolutely. Is he Top 4 all-time? Hell no.

Generally speaking, I agree with you, but when you have three more wins and six more appearances than second place, you can't just handwave that away. Not to mention he holds every major QB record to speak of.

Do I think he's the best QB ever? Personally, no, but he's the most accomplished by a landslide and it's silly to ignore that.

Also why are you people forcing me to defend Tom Brady against your silly arguments that he shouldn't be there? I'm not even a fan of the guy, but spare me from the "he only won because of all the talent he had around him" argument.

Peyton Manning almost always played on very talented teams. He went to four Super Bowls and won two. Same with Brett Favre. He went to two Super Bowls and won one. Steve Young went to one Super Bowl on those stacked 49ers teams.

Every QB who's worth consideration for Mount Rushmore needed a lot of help to get there, but to act like Brady was merely a tagalong who got lucky reeks of sour grapes.

Otto Graham is a HUGE snub here btw.

He played 10 seasons, and made 10 championship games. He won 81% of his games (Keep in mind Tom Brady only won 75% of his). Yeah, it was a different era. But he revolutionized the game. He transformed the game from a primarily running game, to the passing game we see today.
