Walgreens is going the route of Rite Aide and will probably be going out of business in a few years.

As for Target, seems like only teenagers and senior citizens work there these days. It also doesnt help that self check out is the way to go these days so theyre not looking to hire cashiers.

Why wouldn't someone want to work a soul-draining retail job for an employer who doesn't care whether you live or die, where you get paid way too little to survive off of no matter how low the cost of living is, and where you'll have to deal with children, Karens, and/or crackpots on the regular? It's a mystery /s

Simple reason.. The pay is crap, The customers treat them like lesser human beings not worthy of being treated with any respect yet at the same time are expected to be constantly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about every single item in the store and also tend to be understaffed and expected to do the job that used to be the work of multiple employees

Target employed me for 5 of the worst weeks of my life.

working in retail was legitimately one of the most depressing moments of my life. i have cerebral palsy and they made it way too difficult to get a stool as accommodation so i was basically on pain meds all day due to severe foot pain

Target at least pays people well, so I dunno. Honestly I'd prefer not to because of the political fuck-ups from those 2 places last year, however if I was desperate enough I'd still try to work at Target, even though I'm disappointed in them for yielding to right-wing fascists.

The interview process for target is hella awkward.
Like, they have a digital prompt that asks a question, and then you record a video response and send it. Then you repeat that with no human interaction 4 more times.
I just got turned down for the position, and never got to speak to a single other human being.

Do you want me to work there for you? How much would I be making? Are there benefits?

Not that you actually give a shit, but its actually not. Since we have shit for public transportation, the cost of even a terrible car and car insurance alone thats required to get to the job probably outstrips the money a person makes at minimum wage. Not to mention the fact that these jobs will never give a person full-time hours in order to not pay them benefits, and Medicare sure as shit isnt going to give a person enough ability to go to a doctor for any health concerns.

So yeah, its arguable a net loss of money to work a part-time minimum wage job. But of course, youre the kind of shitstain human being who decides to blame the people not willing to put themselves into virtual slavery for your convenience, rather than blame the people who actually have the ability to improve the quality of their service by paying people what theyre actually worth so that they can work.

My guess is your tummy is upset because it has to exist inside an absolutely revolting and heartless human being. Just buy some baking soda, put 1/2 teaspon in 4 oz of warm water, and chug it down. Its literally the same stuff thats in tums, just without the fruit flavor to make it not taste as vile. Short staffing is causing a lot of trouble for the country and it is an unnecessary step taken simply to maximize corporate profit. It is the opposite of creating jobs. It puts more work on the workers (for no pay raise) and gives the customers a worse experience because theres nobody to help them and everything is rushed

Which makes me wonder why I keep seeing "Help wanted" signs constantly if the upper crust corporations keep understaffing on purpose?

A lot of these jobs people don't stick around. I was watching a video about Dollar General and one commentator said they worked 6 months at one and were the highest tenured employee there by the end of it. They may be constantly hiring for their skeleton crews.

It's basically propaganda, to make people think that they want to hire people but just can't find anyone. Look up 'Ghost Jobs', it's an actual trend where companies will keep job postings up in order to maintain the appearance that they're trying to fill positions to assure their employees that they're trying to lessen their workload as well as provide plausible deniability for why their businesses are consistently understaffed.

Companies act as though they are entitled to workers. They aren't. If you aren't willing to pay me what I want for my time and labor, then you don't get me. That's how the free market is supposed to work isn't it?

Yeah there is a job I interviewed for 2 years ago that I didn't get. The reason being, that they don't want to fill it. That same job has been posted every week on Craigslist, in multiple places. In 2 years you would think they would have filled it.
