Obama won it twice. Hillary lost it by only about 1%.

Both Trump and DeSantis are from Florida, and that's probably making the state temporarily more red than it otherwise would be.

While I agree that focusing a great deal on Florida might be a mismanagement of the Biden campaign's resources (it was literally the only state out of 50 where Biden performed worse than Hillary), we shouldn't act like it's eternally out of reach when it has historically been very competitive for Democrats. What they won in 2020 plus North Carolina, Texas, and Ohio. Texas likely wont flip this cycle but you need pressure for that flip to happen sooner. Florida is a lost cause.

One bad election doesn't mean the state is permanently red. I do think Biden's campaign should be focusing more on Georgia and the midwest (they almost certainly are) and prioritizing Texas, but whoever comes after Biden could be much more competitive in Florida. It's not a lost cause forever.

I didn't know either of these facts, but what the hell changed? Everyone says it's a solid red stronghold, so how the hell did those two perform so well?

Brian Kemp was elected with 53% and Warnock was elected with 51% elections can be weird sometimes.

The reason DeSantis won so hard is because the Democratic candidate was a former Republican. When you run that kind of person the Democrats won't vote because they're probably conservative in nearly every way except maga, and the Republicans won't vote for him because he's a Democrat. They need to run a serious career leftist in order to motivate voters. His education policies seem really unpopular so I'd probably go hard on that and make it my main issue if I was running there.

Since Obama, a ton of MAGA types have moved to FL, making it more red (good news is, that in turn made several other states slightly more blue/purple), they've "swamped it", if you will.
Also, I think Obama normalizing relations w/ Cuba permanently shifted the Cuban-Americans in south FL to the Republican side. Fear of their short-sighted single-issue wrath was the main reason we never did it before, and it appears those fears were valid. That and constant GOP narratives of all Dems being "socialists" (even Biden) gradually working on them. They hate Castro, and any slight whiff of communism/socialism drives them right into the other party's arms.

I really can't put enough into words my disdain for them, and seeing all the consequences of their political choices coming back to bite them in the ass (climate change, surging insurance costs, etc...) brings me joy.

That said, to be fair... his opponent was fucking trash and I think less than a year later got arrested?

Theyre basing it entirely on the most recent 4 elections while ignoring an event from 2 decades ago, is not as strong of an argument as you think. Al Gore would never perform that well in the Florida of today. We grew up thinking of Florida as THE swing state but times have changed.

Yeah. Couple this with Obama basically being the most gifted orator in politics and Bill Clinton being the second, and this take is even dumber.
