You're better off drinking full fat coke. The artificial flavouring in the diet variants are arguably worse for your health.

Those "% daily value" numbers are kinda weird, I just looked at my 2 quart of 1% milk and it says each serving has 12g of sugar, but since it's not added sugar, it says 0% daily value. Like, what?

Not any more than normal Coke ingredients. The study involving the carcinogens present in artificial sweeteners did find that they caused cancer, but the unspoken bit was that it was funded by the normal sugar industry and that the statistics found them essentially just as bad as normal sugar.

That's how it should be. Added sugar should be like 5-10g tops, and that only because 0 is probably asking too much of people.

At a certain amount, I feel like diet drinks are less threatening. I used to drink even more diet soda than I do now (currently the vice is very low sugar energy drinks which is probably the same thing basically) and I can't help but think I'd have given myself diabetes by now if those were real sodas.

The most important part that gets ignored IMO is that you have to have like 40-50 cans of diet soda on the regular for any of that artificial sweetener (aka spooky carcinogens) to be harmful.

I remember seeing that before too, and thankfully I don't think I've ever gotten to that quantity (at least not per day).

I exaggerated tbh, but I think it's realistically more like 20-30. It varies by weight, but the point is you'd have to be drinking so much of that stuff that almost nobody has to worry about it. If so, you have more to worry about than just the big C anyway.

Some people just refuse to drink "diet" anything because they live in fear that even one glass could ruin your life. Absolutely not. The average person is perfectly fine drinking a can or two a day.

Added sugar is sucrose, which is worse for you in large amounts.

Non-added sugar is often fructose (fruit sugar) or lactose (milk sugar) which your body can more readily handle.

Got a 16 oz. Coke from a vending machine once and made the mistake of looking at the sugar percent. It was over 100% the recommended daily value for one bottle.

The problem I've always heard with artificial sweeteners isn't that they're carcinogenic. It's that the body responds to them by producing the same chemicals it does to control your sugar levels, but because there are no actual sugar levels it just fucks your insulin or something.

If they produced insulin in the same amount, people would die of hypoglicemia all the time from drinking artificial sweetners.

They do contribute to insulin resistance, but to a much lesser degree than sugar does.

Anyone who says "it's the same" or "is worse" has no idea wtf they are talking about. They are not good for you, but not nearly as bad as sugar.
