In total war it's difficult to completely separate civilian from military infrastructure. But there is a middle ground between "we need to avoid inconveniencing civilians" and "mass execution of non combatants" that we should be striving to meet, and the standard should be higher for more powerful nations.

When it comes to the culpability of civilians for the culture leading to a war, it's worth noting that half of the Palestinian population are children. They've literally lived under Hamas rule for as long as they can remember and never had a real chance to exert control over their own destiny.

Yeah, I'm more bringing that up as something Israel's citizenry should be considering. Even if half of Palestine wasn't children who've never known any other life, the extent to which Israel has stripped Palestine of their ability to influence the region means I don't consider them overly culpable for the extent to which the situation has deteriorated, beyond the obvious immediate responsibility for any deaths they personally cause.

In this conflict there is no "bad guy". Bad guy implies that the opposition is mostly good. This is a conflict that is funded by large powers that mostly affects civilians.

That's... not how people work.

Yeah, "Muslim nations" =/= all Muslims. Just as one should take care to not conflate Hamas with all Palestinians, one should not assume that because Muslim heads of state fail to denounce Hamas, that there are not countless Muslim citizens living in those countries and elsewhere who do not condone the actions of Hamas, and who support Palestinians in finding proper representation for their people, and hope for a peaceful resolution to all this conflict

Heck, I'll go out on a limb and say that most Muslim heads of state are comparable assholes to Netenyahu. Generalizing that to the entire religion as a whole, however, is just stupid, and suggesting that we should "reevaluate our acceptance of Islam" as part of that generalization is going full Hitler. You'll notice I'm not suggesting that we should "reevaluate our acceptance of Judaism" in criticizing Israel's policies. There's a reason for that. Don't go full Hitler.

In the closest state to its modern version, post-WWI as the Ottoman empire was carved up and the British took control of the region. Prior to that, it was a state of the Ottoman empire from around the 15th-16th century until 1917.

Again, add water to the kool-aid. That kind of concentration really isn't healthy for you.

The people of Mandatory Palestine were still culturally Palestinians, as they still had been when they were under the rule of the Ottomans. The region itself has been called Palestine for thousands of years. The war that formed Israel was called the 1948 Palestine War, which was sparked by Israelite insurgents declaring independence.

Whenever either Wanded or Ozzy get absolutely humiliated for their lack of understanding on something, they abandon the topic and the other worms it's way out from whatever rock they've been hiding under. Curious.

Not saying they're alts, but it's quite the coincidence that they're similarly ill-informed and make dumb posts almost in tandem

Countries as we currently think of them didn't really exist until like 300 years ago. You'd often have governments that were of a completely different culture than their population, with no sense of national conraderie or loyalty between the two.

From a certain sense France and England were basically one country until like 1400. But I don't think you'd go back to that and use it a justification for frog eater genocide.

I don't know what people are arguing about, I don't think Ozmose hasn't posted anything particularly wrong. Terrorist group attacks Israel, and Israel takes the opportunity to worsen the situation and commit more genocide.

Palestine doesn't even have a real government, they just live under the heel of Israel in open concentration camps. It was just "a terrorist group from Palestine"

Not so much here, at least not that I remember. I'm guessing he's more referring to the other topic where he posted incorrect statistics about literacy rates and complained about "bot farms" and "echo chambers" and dipped out when everyone pointed out how objectively wrong he was, which (perhaps coincidentally) lined up rather closely with when Wanded showed up here with his smarmy "Why are you all talking about Palestine like it's a real place?" nonsense. And now Ozmose is back trying to spin his unwillingness to recognize being proven wrong as a good thing, and is getting appropriately dogpiled for doing so.

The fact of the matter is that the vast, vast majority of Islamic people have zero interest in terrorism. To that end, equating the two makes very little sense even before considering the horrific discrimination that kind of attitude opens up. Just as Israel's apartheid policies are not the fault of Judaism as a whole, Hamas' terrorist activities are not the fault of Islam as a whole. Islam just happens to be the dominant religion in an area where everyone feels so disenfranchised that the idea of fighting for liberation under the banner of anything as unified as a religion becomes pretty appealing, an appeal that groups like Hamas and Al'Qaeda and ISIS are happy to exploit because it gives them more bodies to blow up.

It's always the same brand of ignorance from a particular group of posters (Wanded, Zeus, zebatov, Ozzy). All the foolishness kinda blurs together after a while

I love that they don't respond to more pointed criticism but take the time out of their day to lob lazy, meaningless potshots building up their own self-importance to massage their bruised ego lmao

If I'm responding to someone in a topic, that's the extent of any "real estate" they occupy... very fleeting. I guess they need to tell themselves these things to get over being completely annihilated intellectually by multiple posters every time they post lmao

It's funny. I visit a bunch of other boards, and disagree with plenty of people, but this is the only one where people have such an unhealthy fixation. Get a hobby or something. If this is how you talk and act in the real world, you're not going to get very far in life.
