Yeah, this sounds like you really don't know your musical history.
Fun fact: The dude that (co-)wrote "Shake It Off" also wrote "...Baby One More Time", "I want it That Way", "I Kissed a Girl", and "It's Gonna Be Me", among many, many others. 1 dude has dominated the charts and your ears for decades now, because it's all the same stuff.

Welcome to the music industry. It didn't always used to be this way, though.

That's hardly true. Plenty of songs, especially in each era's version of the "pop" genre, have had ghost writers and been written by committee for decades.
Indeed, but "Pop" wasn't the dominate genre in every era, and even then, had strong, culturally-defining competitors that also were household songs and ruled the airwaves. We've slowly been marching to the least-common denominator in that regard.

It kind of has been, actually. There was a period where being a singer-songwriter was popular, but ghostwriters have been around for centuries.

Yes it did.

The same people who wrote 'Can I Get a Witness' wrote 'Where Did Our Love Go?', 'I Can't Help Myself', 'Jimmy Mack', 'Band of Gold', 'Give Me Just a Little More Time', and many many more.

Sure, the mold was broken, and for a good stretch emphasis on original artists and discovering (as opposed to manufacturing) acts was king. It has since regressed from these times. Hence my point. Hardly anything can compete for sheer cultural dominance these days like the mass-produced stuff can.

Pop is short for popular, so by definition, it kind of was one of the dominant genres in any given era. The term "pop" could be used to describe one of the most popular genre of music at any given time. We just don't always use that term directly, especially when referencing musical trends in hindsight. Really, any music that has wide audience appeal and mass marketing could be considered "pop." Acts like The Beatles, Bing Crosby, and Michael Jackson all fall into the category.

Record labels have been investing in bands since at least the 1960s, and as such, have had a huge hand in the kind of music that popular bands produce which includes heavily influencing song writing.

I do not listen to radio. Haven't in years.
That's the point. There is a good chance she was making music that was dominating the radio before you stopped listening to the radio. Like others have said, anywhere where basic level pop music is being played Taylor Swift has been in rotation. It's been nearly 20 years since her first song hit the radio.

Now you may not care and tune out 95% of the music in these places. I do that all the time. And you can't pull a tune or melody from one of her songs that upon someone telling you about it makes you go

"Oooo this is a Taylor Swift song...."

Again I agree.

The point people are making is that you have absolutely been in a place where one of her songs was playing you just tuned it out. You don't care for her so you don't retain the song melody or anything about it. We all do it.

I haven't listened to radio longer than that. I used to be an EMT a long time ago, l and they'd play the radio all day long. I got sick of it and swore off radio.

You guys can tell me I've heard her before, but if our lives depended on me picking out a song of hers from a mixed playlist line up we'd all be dead, 'cause I couldn't do it.

There's a chance if you're always home and don't go out you've never ran across her songs but they're used as background music at outlets, in movie trailers, people's ring tones, etc. Quite the feat, worth bragging about. Don't listen to one now you've went 20 years strong. Cover your ears if one comes on to keep the streak going
