I still wear my mask whenever I go into a crowded place (if I'm just quickly popping into the gas station to grab something and it doesn't look crowded I might leave it behind) and I have appointment for the latest booster scheduled for tomorrow.

Welp, my local Walgreens texted me earlier today and said they cancelled my appointment. I called them to see what happened, and they said "we ran out". On one hand, it sucks that I have to reschedule my appointment to Friday because that's when they said they would get more. But on the other hand, enough people getting vaccinated in my area that "they ran out" is good news... and honestly kind of surprising given the red state I live in.

Good news, I'm officially boosted and fully caught up. I should probably buy a new mask though, I've been using the same one for a while.

I can't speak for anyone else, but apart from maybe the first few weeks of the pandemic when we were all in panic mode, I've never personally advocated for lockdowns. Wear your damn masks, get your damn shots, and don't throw a hissy when either one is mandated. It's that simple.

My hospital hasnt seen a significant jump in Covid. It is very easy to tell when that happens as a pharmacy tech. Its as minimal as ever for my area. My hospital also hasnt forced people to wear masks again. More people are wearing masks at work than before but thats about it.

I posted the long covid stuff and this is the myocarditis stuff which shows it's not the vaccine but the very rare immune system response causing it. Meaning their immune systems being reved up in general causes it. As more people get the vaccine it remains low and rare....not so with long covid cases.

I can't speak for everyone but I myself and most people I know are still cautious and vigilant about masks and keeping updated getting the vaccine updates.

This interests me. My wife has potential myocarditis at the moment and is due to get the booster soon. Is the recommendation not to take the vaccine based on this report?

I appreciate it suggests the vaccine is less dangerous than getting covid but what about if you already have myocarditis?

I haven't been as vigilant with masks since I have all of my vaccines and boosters. However, I still wear them occasionally at very crowded places or if I'm a bit sick.

I have been spooked lately by many people I know getting covid.

"Stop the spread" really isn't a sufficient answer to the question. Also, I don't know if you wrote it, but that "no one could have foreseen this" joke on that chart doesn't really work. Everybody except right wingers could have foreseen those bumps were coming, many of them were in the winter anyway. The big exception being the Delta variant in the 2021, that was unexpected for a lot of people.

Also, I know some people will scoff at this, but can people stop getting acting like comparisons to Flu is akin to saying its nothing? Im not saying its the same at all, but the flu is a still a pretty big deal that can kill tens of thousands of Americans yearly.

That she is better off getting the vaccine. It's more likely than not the virus would cause more damage getting it with no protection than the protection itself. Sounds like she is at risk either way but has a better go of it getting the vaccine as directed. Her doctor, which she should consult, would most likely say the same thing.

If you are going to wear a mask you might as well wear a N-95 or equivalent. Cloth and surgical masks offer so much less protection, especially when almost no one else wears a mask.

I'm not masking up cause I love in a red state and Republicans are gun toting crazies.

So the vaccine causes myocarditis at half the rate of the disease? That's still PRETTY BAD. Especially considering cardiac-related deaths in young people is up 30% and cardiac deaths have increased year over year since the pandemic after decreasing for a decade earlier. Like we need to talk about this more, because we tell the anti-vaxxers there is no problem, and this article is laying out that there is. We silence anybody who tries to bring these things up. But that article seems to be saying that both the vaccine and the virus are causing problem, but that since covid is worse we should just be ok with it and not mention it. If the vaccine gives you cardiac problems at half the rate of the disease does that mean cardiac-deaths would be up 10% from the vaccine alone?

It mentions over-stimulation of the immune system. Is that why the covid vaccines make you sick for a day like no other vaccine does? Shouldn't we be developing vaccines that don't do that? Like I've had arm pain after a flu shot, but every time I take the covid vaccine I feel like Im legitimately sick with a fever and its awful.

It says between for males ages 12 through 17 about 12 to 17 cases out of 10,000 with in 21 days after receiving the vaccine and 50.1 to 64.9 cases estimated out of 10,000 over all once they got infected. That's like near 1 percent both after receiving the vaccine and those who got infected with out taking the vaccine....no where near half.

I understand the mistake but don't use that and spread that around.

Thirdly I read his post as saying you have double the risk of getting myocarditis by catching covid vs taking the vaccine. Not that half the people getting covid get myocarditis. Hopefully @hhh can confirm.

I am curious though if you get the vaccine and then go and get covid shortly after how does that affect your odds of getting myocarditis? I had a friend who caught covid and ended up with a mild case of myocarditis and his doctor advised him not to take the booster this year but he would be fine to take it the following year providing it clears up.

Im not anti vax in the slightest. Look at the amazing work polio vaccines have done. My wife has genuine heart issues at the moment so this is closer to home for us so its a little more important to us than it might be other posters.

And yes. Fair point on getting the vaccine while already infected or maybe catching covid straight after. I did explicitly query if we know yet what the stats show about those sorts of cases.

its hard. Even now it feels difficult to have genuine discourse on covid and vaccines without feeling like you have to tread lightly for fear of being misunderstood / accused of being anti vax vax or a big pharma-stan / wanting to take away mah freedoms!.

This. But with how high cardiac deaths have risen, this still doesn't seem good, because we know covid has had bad effects on people's hearts, even half of that is still very concerning to me.
