I didn't have much opinion of Aerith from the original game but I did like her quite a bit in Remake

Not sure if that's due to differences in characterization or just my tastes shifting in the uhhh 20 years between the two but I'd be totally down with her winning

historical preference rankings was the order of who you wanted to win the most, yeah. It was separate from "like" order.

Like in contest XXI I had Lightning #1 and Aerith #2....
And in contest XXII I had Tifa #1 and Aerith #2...
And in XXIII I had Kefka #1 and Aerith #2...

ok she's definitely a #1 for the past two years for me at least!!!

Ramza was completely awful prior to Contest XVIII outside of a handful of appearances. He went on a 5 contest spree of not even making the top half, sometimes by a staggering amount. The "poor Ramza" thing is a meme because of all the poor performances. He has managed to pick up dedicated savers now but I'd still hardly call 3 top 20s out of 11 chances since the change to 100 characters a "titan".

Like if my favorite ever did manage to make the finals and lost, I'd just know it was because he's a polarizing character a lot of people actively dislike. Support your favorite by all means, I always have and will. I just don't get why you keep inventing this false logic about why she lost.

Do you not believe a character can be stronger in the finals than they are through a contest normally

I like Tifa/Laguna about the same, but the presence of Aeris makes it a lot harder for Tifa to make the final, so that's mainly why I've been supporting him.

That is absolutely not true. Laguna is very well liked here and the dominoes just haven't quite fallen right so far. One or two of the right eliminations could give him tons of support.

IIRC that was in the early stages of the bot before there were any bot contests. I think it was in the regular SMFFFC topics but the bot was only activated after rounds were over. GMUN might have also made a special topic for it.

I agree with this. She's my legit favorite FF character and I love that she's getting more support these last few years but every single day is just let's hate on Aerith after the round ends and it's exhausting

I definitely remember it being in a Leon round

also a specific trigger was that somebody set bot to be my own alt, so it got passed the "is a bot" check

it was never an issue before because like Mothra or whoever would be identified by bots, but that account was registered as my own personal alt so bot would convert it to GuessMyUserName and think hey that's not a bot post!

It predates SMFFFC2 which is the start of recorded botcontest history, but it's after the Save My fffdpmua&vn Character testrun

yeah swordz did summon Mothra, probably for the best since the topic would've hit 500 in 20 minutes

I figured but it's more fun to think about a cascading escalation of "yes, poor Ramza(...)^x" filling up B8

Laguna had the perfect storm a few years ago, where everything fell into place for him to make the finals.

But then he lost to MWCloud and that killed my motivation to ever again put so much effort into trading and supporting a character.

All Laguna needs this year is to outlast Squall and he'll probably go far. It's looking like a real possibility.

Except I hate Laguna so you guys need to let him die, then Squall, then rally behind Selphie instead imho

I guess this would be my preference list this year. But I don't really feel firm on any rankings besides wanting to continue helping Red.

This take is always kinda weird to me because Remake Aerith is great as a result of her actually being close to her original characterization. People just got used to the Kingdom Hearts/Compilation version that made her pure and innocent and not much else.

Please note that the Aerith I've been saving is Remake Aerith, the one who reinvigorated the character. This is "Save My Favorite Final Fantasy Character" and not "Save My Favorite Kingdom Hearts Character" after all.

I think every character has a group of people who think they're lame. Sephiroth is super popular; it's just that a lot of people who have him in their top 5 are usually busy pushing along something else instead. He just would need the right cards to fall to have a great run, or even win.

I mean if Cloud can win, Seph can too

They both face the same obstacles
