After one year...who would've thought...

Is she even relevant besides tabloid bait? I was gonna say she must be old by now but I forgot she was like 15/16 when she became famous so she's not a whole lot older than me.

I went from having the typical "meh who cares dumb celebrity!!" perspective on her until a few years ago. It's sad how much we discount mental health across the board - for rich people and poor people. I heard a comedian joke about this, but it's probably more accurate than we think: rich people therapists probably just keep dragging them along for cash. A little conspiratorial, but there are definitely a lot of wealthy celebrity therapists out there, and it's not so out there with real examples like Dr. Landy who really messed up Brian Wilson for decades.

I'm also a big Amy Winehouse fan, and everyone just mocked her until she died. She had more talent in her than anyone in the past 50 years.

Britney might not be on that level, but it's sad that the music industry and media has only mercilesly teased and mocked her while she was obviously struggling, and still does. I really fell in love with her first four albums, I joke that she's like Black Sabbath to me (who I also love the first four albums of). She's a talented passionate lady who gets mocked by media and the public anytime she is public facing. It's too bad their marriage didn't work out, I hope it's just him taking care of himself and nothing terrible happened. Hope they both are better off.

It's mostly tabloid bait these days. She posts silly dancing videos on instagram and every tabloid spins it as her being insane. Although she was more prominent in the media for good reason a couple of years ago when she ended the conservatorship her father had over her.

Oh yeah, I vaguely remember that, it's like she can't do anything publicly without tabloids tryna spin it into something crazy, like shit, how many people post themselves doing dumb shit having fun on social media all the time but when she does it she must be butt fucking nuts.

Yeah, the number of responses along the lines of "maybe the conservatorship wasn't such a bad idea" to her enjoying not being enslaved anymore was pretty disgusting.

I mean don't a lot of youths these days do that too on tiktok? might not be age appropriate or whatever, but considering the mental health angle, isn't that far off from that / isn't THAT weird. or at least, I see the tiktok dances as weird already lol

She's always been into dancing/singing. I like dancing too, personally. It isn't similar to the TikTok dance videos in that those are usually planned with edits. Her videos seem a lot more improvised. Either way, I don't really see what dancing in a video has to do with ones mental health or weirdness. I can see why people think TikTok dances are weird, but I don't really find them that odd. Choreographing dances to popular music has been part of the cultural zeitgeist for much longer than I've been alive.

like I think it's weird in general but that's just me and not my thing, clearly tons of people are into it and it's pretty mainstream and pretty normal and that's cool

so why different for Britney other than people trying to make it something more?

I'd probably coldcock anyone who would actually say this. It's one thing to not like her music or even to angle yourself in a position to try to use her to make undeserved money. It's something else to suggest that a girl who was a slave for 20 years should go back to being a slave FOR ANY FUCKING REASON IMAGINABLE. FULLSTOP.

she only got agency to actually live her life a few years ago, give her some space to learn what she wants/needs in a relationship. i still aint figured that part out

and she's got it worse than the average person having had to live under a conservatorship for that long

I would be too if I was under a conservatorship and had 0 freedom to make my own decisions. Not trying to justify treating employees badly, but I sympathize more with her mental health state than someone like Ellen who treats their employees badly.

She still does pretty damn well with concerts, it helps that she was so huge early on. People think she just sits at home and does random weird shit but nope she still does a good number of concerts each year and most sell very well.

I'm a fan of her live shows but she hasn't done a live concert since October 21, 2018.
