I just found out about this. One of my favorite shoot-em-up games ever is apparently coming back on a modern platform. I played the crap out of the 360 version (which is still backwards compatible on the newer Xbox systems but has since been de-listed from the store so you can't buy it anymore) and I still have that version downloaded so I'm not sure I'd re-buy the game for the Switch unless they added some features compared to the 360 version. But still, it's cool that more people will get to see and experience this game, because it's really fun.

I bought that game on 360 back in like 2007 or something and I still haven't gotten around to playing it, lol

FLCL Grunge airs tonight on toonami. Not feeling the art style, but I doubt anything could be worse than FLCL Progressive.

I thought Alternative was pretty decent. Perhaps not the instant classic nostalgia fueled roadtrip that the original somehow managed to be even on first viewing, but as far as conveying the show's themes in a different light I thought it did a really good job. Progressive though was just plain bad.

Also, as much as I love the Pillows I wish they had found a new musical talent to use for the season. Like, for Alternative especially The Peggies was right there. I dunno, using a bunch of mostly early 2000s Pillows music that didn't get used for the OG FLCL just felt like a misstep when they could have used almost any modern female-led Alt rock band.

Agreed, the other two sucked but Alternative was great. Shoegaze seems to be a direct sequel to Alternative and has the same vibes as it, so I'm optimistic about it so far.

Last season Eminence in Shadow had a villain named Perv Asshat, this season we had a mob called Immatry Nottalose. 10/10 show

I didn't get the chance to watch Yes 5 GoGo (only Yes 5 and Splash Star) but I'm watching Precure Full Bloom anyways. The only character I'm missing background on from GoGo is Kurumi, but hopefully that's not too big of a deal.

Finished S1 of Dead Mount Death Play finally. I love Ryogo Narita's writing (Baccano!, Durarara!!) so this was an easy standout for me, though I feel like they maybe could have upped the pace slightly. I feel like I've only been just introduced to the majority of the characters.

The summer season was very light for me anime-wise so I watched alot (and dropped a few) older animes in the meantime.

Vanitas no Karte Season 1/Part 1/whatever - Fun show, just two bros, some vampire, some not, doing bro stuff

Tokyo Ghoul:re - Don't give a crap about Tokyo Ghoul, never have, never will, the animes are terrible. This was terrible as well, but the quality was irrelevant. I watched solely for the cute, thicc, shortstack gremlin.

Hajime no Ippo: Champion's Road - The movie that takes place after the long first season. God I forgot how hype and fun this show is. Time really flew by while watching it. Though my only complaint was the opponent's emphasis on internal organs and the internal shots it kept flashing were squick inducing.

Grand Blue - Oh man. When I heard there was a comedy that was just a bunch of frat dudes in college getting up into hilarious hijinks, I was sold instantly. Didn't get around to it for a long time though. This one goes out to our boy, popcorn_fairy. He's the one I heard about it from years ago... Hilarious show.

Kaleido Star Legend of Phoenix - A followup movie from the anime exploring Layla's personal growth over time and moving on from her injury. Kaleido star is a great series and Layla is a good character so it was nice to see more of her. Rosetta still best girl.

Dead Mount Death Play Part 1- Can't believe I overlooked this one as it was airing. Had no idea it was another of Narita's works. Would have watched day 1 if I knew. The reverse isekai concept is a genre with potential, but just like with regular isekai, only if in the right hands. And Narita is the right hands for the job. Lots of sharks. Not necessarily a negative or positive, its just its own point. ...okay its a positive. On with part 2, currently airing now!

Durarara OVAs - OVAs that came with x2 Shou, and x2 Ten. Just more usual antics among the crew. No different from normal episodes, which is a good thing. Thank you again, Narita.

Deca-Dence - Wow.... wow. If ever there was a show I'm glad I went into completely blind. I never would have imagined the direction the show would have gone in by... episode 2 lmao. Very fun, adventurous show. Reminded me of Sakugon. Got a little... gross at times though...

Ayakashi Triangle - Wow... wow. For the record, this is a complete opposite "Wow... wow." from above. Being an ecchi show that was more censored than non-ecchi shows with the same exact material, this show fell strictly in the "Why even bother?" territory. A show that was delayed for months as it aired, and now delayed for months as the mostly uncensored blurays come out, this show was a complete disaster. But I watched for Lucy, and Lucy is what I got.

Hell fucking yeah. Watching Deca-Dence as it aired was one of the craziest experiences I've ever had watching anime. From the sharp left turn in episode 2 to the bizarre places it goes later on, it's one of the most fun and creative original anime that I've ever seen. I totally recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it, but just like Spidey did, don't ask questions and just go in blind!

Mushoku Tensei, making me squee and awww at the curing of impotence. ^_^

Two of my last remaining shows from the summer season finally finished today, and Sacrifical Princess in particular had a great ending. 9/10 show right there. Once the last episode of Devil Is a Part-Timer airs tomorrow, that'll be the end of the summer for me and I'll be fully focused on the fall. I also finally got around to watching the Kaguya-sama movie today since Crunchyroll dropped the dub for it recently, and it was great as well. Speaking of...

I gave the first season an 8/10, the first cour of this second season a 6/10, and (right now, before seeing the final episode that airs later today) I would give this cour a 6.5/10. It's better, but still nowhere near what the original was, and that's a shame.

What's the deal with that? Was the manga similarily kinda front loaded with better content? I know it's a different company doing it and maybe that changes some things but like... that drop off in quality reminds me of CCS to Clear Card Hen (I am a bit of a CCH hater, felt really boring and cut off when the interesting stuff was gonna start)

I'm an anime-only, so I don't know what the source material was like or how it was received. But in the anime, the general consensus (and my own opinion as well) is that the anime drifted away from the comedy and fun character interactions that made it great in the first season in favor of focusing more on serious stuff in this season. The much weaker art/animation (due to the studio change) and the addition of Alas Ramus throwing a wench in the character dynamics of the main cast don't help things either. Even when it does try to do things that are reminiscent of the good parts of the first season, it doesn't do them quite as well. It's a damn shame.

I haven't really been able to watch...well, anything really, since a few days. I moved out from my parents into my own place. Tried to get a router and WiFi set up: they've sent me the electronics, but the internet itself won't get connected until the beginning of November. I haven't read the source but I did read the synopsis for Devil is a Part Timer and yeah, the story just kind of stops being interesting right around where the original first season ended it seems. On a related note. I saw a McDonalds ad at a McDonalds that was just clips of a bunch of off-brand McDonald's from various media. Felt absolutely surreal seeing "Satan" at a McDonalds.

Hmm. Looking at that production staff I'm not seeing anyone with a heavy draw besides Kevin Penkin. looks at WOWOW's broadcasting lineup. Okay so that's really weird. They mostly air Japanese dubs of American television. Occasionally sports programs, but they've got Friends, CSI, Grey's Anatomy, South Park, and the Simpsons. This is probably a "safe", experimental production to see if the channel should move into anime production.

The synopsis sounds pretty cool though. Might check the manga or LN sometime if the anime turns out to be a bust, but eh. I guess I'll give it a look regardless. Sometimes my favorite shows of a season are the rough cut shows.

Tried out Good Night World. It's a little bit Dennou Coil, a little bit SAO / Digimon Tamers. The basic premise is that Hikki/NEET Taichiro plays a game called PLANET as "Ichi". In real life Taichiro is heavily abused by his family. (Well, the family as a whole is heavily dysfunctional. Taichiro isn't an innocent party here) In the game, he has a perfect happy "pretend" family. The twist? Everyone in his fake, online family is actually his real life family. Seemingly, all of them sought the online world as a refuge from each other, only to make a perfect, happy family with each other on the net. None of them knows the other's real identities because their online "party" has a strict "Don't ask about each other's real lives" policy. Maybe the virtual "sister" knows, as their real life sister is heavily implied to have died prior to the story, but beyond that they're somehow all clueless.

It's not really a good anime but it is definitely an interesting one. It's a little gorier than I expected going in and at some points it reaches some pretty genuinely disturbing horror imagery. The tone is all over the place though. Some light, vague spoilers. One moment you'll a character experiencing world shattering revelations as they're brutally killed by an overpowered opponent. Then cut to a cartoon villain waxing on about how online friendships are meaningless and that everyone playing this game is a pathetic waste of life. Then immediately followed by genuinely tense horror sequences that, at least for me were pretty unnerving. The mood whiplash was jarring.

I haven't finished it yet, but I've got a really strong feeling on what I think the final big twist is going to be. It's very, very rough. But some of it's standout moments are probably going to stay with me for a long while.

Recommendation: Give it one episode. If anything at all clicks with you keep watching, you might like what you see. If not don't feel bad giving it a miss.

Yes. It's a somewhat clumsy attempt to capture the fact that in Japanese he often ends his sentences with de gozaru, a very archaic form of desu (even by his time period). Basically, he's speaking in a way that is simultaneously polite and familiar, and this way if speaking is kind of frustrating to a lot of his opponents. Imagine meeting someone and they talked to you like you were old friends, but also like you're a guest in their house and you're trying to be polite to make a good impression for their mom.

The English dub is trying really hard to capture that specific vibe. It does well, imo. The "that it is" part is just for de gozaru I believe.

TLDR: He talks in a way that's odd an anachrostic even by his time periods standards, basically. The English Dub is trying to reflect that.

Mmmkay. It is a bit annoying but that is the point, so I will get used to it I'm sure.
