That seems like the sort of "wrestling move" a character in a JRPG from the 90s would use as one of their special attacks.

Looks stupid and overly fake. There's a large segment of modern fans who want wrestling to look as goofy as possible (unless it's WWE) and I'll never get it.

It's pretty lame. The stunner is more believable.

If this doesn't convince doubters wrestling's not fake, then I don't know what will.

At least with Undertaker's old school he'd usually crank the arm once beforehand, giving the illusion of having established "control" of the person receiving the move.

no, you're already applying cartoon logic to the move from the outset. cranking someone's arm doesnt disable their legs, all someone would need to do was move backwards a little to tug takers dumb ass off the ropes

this is no more or less believable a move. the only difference is it just looks stupider. but wrestling, and lucha in particular, is full of stupid looking moves.

That's why I said "at least". Old School was always a dumb move, but it was visually impressive and no one else was doing it at the time.

Now, everybody is flipping off of everything 100 times and getting 2 counts on 720 Avalanche Tombstone Powerbombs.

professional wrestling in general is inherently stupid when you try to apply logic to it
let's all ignore any sort of story for a moment in wrestling
you throw yourr opponent against the ropes with such force they can't resist whereas ten seconds ago you were evenly match in a hand grip contest

Undertaker didn't take 20 minutes and dance a fucking jig on the rope before doing his move so there really is no comparison even though it was dumb for its own reasons.

Everyone knows wresting is fake but people that watch still want it to look like the people are fighting each other. Not this shit where it looks like they are actively helping their opponent hurt them. Look at the disinterested faces in the crowd, even AEW fans, the smarkiest of the smarks are over it.

I saw this earlier and gave him the benefit of the doubt because I thought he initially almost botched and fell off the first set of ropes, then saved face by showing off that he can jump on the ropes like he did to the crowd, but yeah, it all looks stupid.

Maybe Im old fashioned but back in my day a wrestler would just bash your head with a 2 x 4. And we liked it.

If you have a character people could care about and it's been established you're the kind of guy who's dead set on going for over the top flashy moves, that makes some sense at least.

Wrestlers just randomly doing crazy spots and nonsensical attacks for a moment of crowd stirring or an insincere "this is awe-some" sucks though.

i dont disagree its very stupid, but you're still underselling it. old school is very slow and stops the match dead in exactly the same way with someone just staring like an idiot while he does it. He's not even doing funny cartoon flips to distract the other guy

Taker also did that shit for decades whereas I am fairly sure this dumb move will be forgotten in a couple months

the five knuckle shuffle definitely did not take less time lol. cena has to dance, run the ropes, stop running the ropes and eliminate all momentum for no reason, dance again, and then fall over like hes a tree someone just finished cutting down while doing an even worse punch than Cena usually delivers, which is saying something

Easily one of the top 5 worst moves in wrestling. Rock's is more tolerable because it more or less started as a joke at least

Most moves happen on a whim.

The worst move I ever saw was a missed jump kick they did it early and were several feet away, and the other person still fell over as if the pressure hit them or something. To be honest the whole fight was so bad it killed my love of wrestling.

That's what I thought too. It looked to me like he messed up the take off of what was supposed to be the original move and then improvised it into something else. But then he did about 4 rope bounces too many and it stopped making sense.
