Calling it an attack on womens' rights was the last straw for me, simple as that, I don't need to be on speaking terms with someone like that and I couldn't give even the slightest shit what they think of me for it

So, this is anecdotal and so I'm sure you could find some counter-examples, but one thing I've noticed in basically all of the stories surrounding transgender bans in sports especially at the college level and below (and I feel it becomes even more true the earlier you go) is that in instances where they were allowed to compete it's basically never their peers who they're competing against who are out there calling for bans. Almost every story I hear on the subject, if they reach out to fellow competitors, including those who lost to a trans athlete, believe they should be able to continue competing and oppose the efforts of politicians and ""concerned"" parents/people/etc. to ban them from competition.

Which always led me to the natural conclusion of thinking it was one of the most clear examples of exposing the bullshit behind pushing these bans in the first place - the people most closely involved appear to oppose the effort.

I disagree, unless you think Biden loses massively to anyone. DeSantis has a bit too much crazy on his record by now to pivot back to mainstream appeal. Honestly, I'd worry more about a Trump rematch.

First off I don't think DeSantis can beat Trump in a GOP primary. But even if we grant that he does for the hypothetical he's been giving off big Scott Walker vibes to me lately as a "on paper this guy looks like a nightmare to run against it" but in practice comes off as so weird and bad at campaigning that I think it just collapses before it really begins.

Of course, it's the US electorate. Gas prices could go up like 20 cents in October 2024 and then democracy ends. But that's the case regardless of opponent.

Biden should be fine because incumbents historically have a massive advantage and Trump is more loser than ever but also good luck with the senate lol

Okay after seeing some more back and forth, I am warming up to the Biden trans athlete ruling thing. It prevents blanket bans under Title IX and actually forces them to single people out and 'prove it'

Which might not seem like much but makes them work a lot harder for it than just 'hurr trans bad'

I heard it described as a stall tactic and not something easily challenged whereas blanket opposition could be. Don't love it, but I no longer hate it.

Regarding Tennessee: Gloria is a keeper and I'm glad she survived expulsion, albeit by one vote.

It's incredibly stupid for the state to have even tried though, and they did expel the other two people -- a true shame and a waste of time distracting from the recent school shooting. Keep in mind Florida a month ago tried to dissolve the Democratic party from that state in one of the proposed bills. Now that Tennessee has successfully expelled two Democratic members, people need to recognize that this is on the national menu for Republicans. Other states should beware.

Democrats are still at plenty of times hung up on reaching across the aisle, and we are in an era where the other side of the aisle often wants this side of the aisle gone.

It's not that bipartisanship can't exist, but it can't lead or even survive when one side of a two-party system generally doesn't want it.

I hate to point this out, but there's nothing illegal about his campaign donations to Democrats. They were properly reported (hence the reporting on them) and were within the donation legal limits. It's a bad look for the Dems who took his money, but pretty much everybody in politics gets some portion of their funding from morally questionable sources. It's not really comparable to Thomas's situation.

This conversation really bothered me and it made me question if I did feel so strongly about something of I was doing enough about it.

As for the dueling injunctions, I assume that's to remove the ability of SCOTUS to cover their eyes and ignore it, letting the ban stand. Unless the Circuit Court intervenes it'll cause a split among them and essentially force SCOTUS to rule on it.

Given that they backpedalled away from that anti-trans case the other day I think SCOTUS would strike down the ban but it's always "fun" that you can't be completely sure with this court and maybe they'll just go "fuck it" and institute the next step in their theocracy.

After that theyll take it a step further and legalize rape and make women unable to refuse sexual advances or they get slapped with a felony. Wouldnt put anything past the party protecting child marriages and forced births

BTW, another reason I seem to fall in so easily with the alt-right is that I do tend to be skeptical of efforts to "increase diversity". That was my knee-jerk reaction when Marvel announced so many movies with X non-white ethnicity in the lead, until I reasoned it out being that every movie before Black Panther had a white male lead by executive mandate according to both Bob Iger and Kevin Feige, so the lack of diversity in earlier MCU phases was at least equally forced. I say this as a person of color myself, to boot.

Stuff like this led me to keep checking on Midnight's Edge, and what do you know, they seemed to revel in Iger getting "ambushed" by shareholders questioning him about the failure of Lightyear and Strange World, in addition to complaining about "over-representation" of LGBT people in both movies, as if a lesbian couple who disappear after the first act and the first gay protagonist in the Disney Animated Canon are somehow over-representing. The only reason I mention this is how ironic I continue to find that people who complain so much about cancel culture are openly advocating for censorship of ideas they don't like, especially since they claim there are political agendas at work (can't deny there are agendas, just the idea that merely acknowledging the LGBT community is somehow a political statement that disgusts me). This additionally just brings to mind how they used to complain so much about feminists complaining about "rampant violence against women in video games", as if the games expressly condoned such just by containing it when all those feminists were really concerned about was precisely how common such a narrative was. This isn't even the most blatant red flag here, but I just find it particularly precious how these guys keep citing the same 6-7 movies, with maybe only 1 or 2 new examples per year at best, as indications of "Get Woke, Go Broke". Now I know there's no point arguing with them that stuff like the Ghostbusters reboot and Solo flopped for circumstances other than Internet outrage, especially considering some of them continue to insist Disney must have bought Captain Marvel's box-office despite how little that holds up under scrutiny (I caught a livestream where some of them said they saw Disney pulling the same stunts for Shang-Chi and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and then straight-up admitted they had no evidence. Plus, why would Disney explicitly try to "protect" is most surefire cash cow this way and not stuff like the aforementioned Lightyear and Strange World?).

No sympathy for Iger from me though, guys is responsible for Disney over-extending itself. Good riddance, but rampant capitalism is why Disney is struggling now and not so-called wokeness.
