Cowboys through no effort of their own managed to avoid drafting both Paxton Lynch and Johnny Manziel
Too bad he wasn't in the AAF for the all of two weeks it existed.

The Dan Le Batard Show had the guy who was in charge of the field for the Super Bowl (and has done every Super Bowl up until now). He's 94 years old and ranted for 25 straight minutes about the sorry condition of the field because his earbud fell out and he couldn't hear anyone on the show try to stop him.

It was glorious.

I imagine Rodgers wants a shot at winning one more Super Bowl, and I feel like the Packers just don't give him a shot. On the other hand, I feel like Rodgers is at a point in his career where he can't carry the Packers to the playoffs, let alone the super bowl, and they might be better off getting something out of him and seeing what they have in Jordan Love. The Jets meanwhile have a team that's ready to compete. All they really need is a QB, and Rodgers would fit that role.

Also the NFL reinstated Calvin Ridley.

And Daniel Jones signs $160M contract with the Giants for 4 years. ...yikes.

Jesus fucking Christ is the QB market insane. Not sure what the details are but $40 million/year is a lot.

On the other side, in a few years, maybe that's "reasonable", assuming he continues to play at his 2022 level. It also let the Giants use the franchise tag on Barkley. So they accomplished what the wanted to and now can look to bolster with the draft.

Jones was really good last year, I think he's still shaking off the early-career bust talk that he had around him. If he has another year like last year next season, I think it's reasonable. I mean, as much as can be. He's not worth 40M, but hardly anyone is. Sometimes if you have a guy that's even just good you have to keep him or else it's back to the gutter. Look at where the commanders have been ever since they elected not to sign cousins.

Perhaps partially because the Ravens don't have a great training staff, according to those report cards.

I get the injury concerns, but the risk is worth the reward when you've already seen how good he can be.

He bet on himself last year, lost that bet, and still wants all the money. It's frustrating for both sides I'm sure.

Depends on the team, really. Those expressing disinterest either can't afford it, or would be served poorly by going all in on a QB. Jets should probably consider it, instead of becoming the retirement home for Green Bay Packers QB's. (Jordan Love to the Jets in 15 years?!)

Well, some teams literally can't because they don't have the two first round picks required (like the Dolphins). I'm not saying every team should be going in on Lamar, but there are some teams I don't understand why they just immediately disavowed all interest.

Yeah, I know I've been a bit vocal about it but speaking from a Jets fan perspective I would 200% rather they pursue Lamar than Rodgers. Give him the guaranteed deal, I don't care. He's worth the picks. And you can get him on a long term deal.

With Rodgers, which the Jets are absolutely going to do unless Rodgers saves them from themselves and retires, they're going to end up trading away valuable talent and end up blowing up their first promising team in about 15 years for a guy who - at least with the Packers basically didn't give a fuck about working with the young talent on the team during the offseason and shit on them during the season - and they'll probably only have him for a year or two. Like all the talking heads going "Rodgers on the Jets makes them a Super Bowl contender!!!" I really doubt that because he's not going to be on the Jets as they were last year, they're going to lose too many pieces in simply acquiring him. Out in the divisional round.

With Lamar they can keep building. Hell, I'd rather they enter a holding pattern and get Jimmy G than sabotage themselves for Rodgers but this team absolutely can't help themselves chasing the shiniest thing they see instead of trying to actually build a team.

Giving up 2 first round picks and all that guaranteed money for any QB is a huge commitment. The Watson deal might go down as an all-time contract blunder so I don't know why it's "collusion" for teams to be wary about replicating it.

I think that's more a Watson thing specifically than the contract structure itself. The owners just don't want a standard of guaranteed contracts to be a thing - that's the collusion part IMO.

The whole thing with collusion is nonsense because the entire football world has felt this coming for... At least a year? These organizations have been ready for this for at least a few months.

And yes, it's a strong rejection of the Browns being that dumb.

Collusion implies these organizations actively got together and decided to effectively blackball him. This happened to Kaepernick, but it isn't happening here.

It's not about Lamar specifically either! I'm claiming the owners collectively are acting to try and close the box of fully guaranteed contracts.

I agree with Leon that it is weird for teams to so quickly declare no interest here... unless it's because it's public knowledge that Lamar is demanding a guaranteed contract and that no owner wants to make it go from an aberration to a trend. And I kinda refuse to believe there's not another owner out there willing to do it unless there was something of a collective gentleman's agreement to try and close the box.

Rodgers is an old man who is coming off his worst statistical season. He's no longer worth the salary he's asking for - and I say this from a Packer fan perspective. I see why Gutekunst wants to ditch him while he's worth something.

Jets need to realize that one pick is all he's worth, especially given the monster contract. If the Packers are to eat some of that, the Jets should trade a 3rd for a Packers 5th or something. I'm not expecting anything beyond one pick and one upgrade. I don't think the Jets are dumb even though they're trading for someone they'll get one season out of, two if they're lucky.
