...net. At least on the main subreddits.

It's hard to articulate exactly why, but I suppose it's like a party filled with that guys. You know the fucking guys. There you are, sipping a beer and wanting to chill out, and now you're talking to that guy. He has a lot of opinions about topics he learned about 3 minutes ago and you can be pretty sure that none of them are correct, but he's passionate about every single one of them.

Like you take a video of a cat being cute or w/e. That guy is there to tell you that actually this particular interaction is bad for the cat's emotional development or that the enclosure is too small or the lights rae too bright or a particular tail wagging is an indication of deep distress, and also did you know that cat's have no emotional attachment to humans? That guy read about that 30 seconds before posting and just wanted to say something that would get him the top comment.

You ever read a topic on reddit that you happen to know more than the layperson about? Look at how many that guys there are, very confidently wrong about all of it. And then you spot that those guys are everywhere, talking that same way about all the topics.

I can think of worse websites with worse people. But I don't know of any that are actually part of a website I enjoy using for information/media, and maybe not any website where the collective attitude is so sickeningly smug.

All of the recurring jokes are so fucking lame.

Between the puns, the "we did it reddit!", the "ah the old reddit switcharoo", and my personal least favourite, the "I pulled my back putting my socks on this morning" as a response to anyone remotely athletic doing something physically skillful.

I really, really detest these kinds of comments. Because for one, they're incorrect. And two, they think they're the first one to drop the "knowledge bomb" on everybody in the room.

The worst thing is, people up vote those comments and then use them as a launching pad for their own cynical anti-pet ranting.

I absolutely hate Reddit. The entirety of upvote/downvote culture has done major damage to online discussion. All you ever see is regurgitated memes and attention grabs at the top of the conversation.

Actual discussion gets buried somewhere near the bottom, and by default most people don't see anything of value in any reddit comment section.

The biggest issues I have with reddit are how so many subs are just echo chambers where dissent is punished with downvoting like crazy to shut people up. And of course, mods & admins that are biased as fuck & will ban people willy nilly.

My main problem with reddit is like...the opposite of my problem with 4chan lol.

4chan is filled with insufferable assholes who are incapable of expressing genuine enjoyment of anything without hiding behind 12 layers of pretending they actually hate it. They're miserable for the sake of being miserable.

Wheras Reddit is fucking terrified of negativity. Any opinion that can even be slightly construed as adversarial needs a fucking codex full of key phrases to come off as non-threatening or, god forbid, seem like you're "gate keeping"

"This is just my opinion but..." "I know this isnt for me but..." "its totally okay if other people like this but..."

Yeah every major social media site likes to pretend they're better than the others, but all have their issues.

Even good subs get big eventually and just get jokes voted straight to the top with the good and detailed posts on the middle or bottom if there's a single sentence that someone doesn't like.

People complain about Twitter politics (still bad), but I always thought Reddit is way worse. There you get every kind of extreme view. Usually with a group of people making their own bubbles and validating every insane thought.

The anonymity changes the dynamic completely.

4chan users are just shouting things into the void. You can spout off whatever and it can't really be traced back.

While Redditers are obsessed with maintaining popularity in a community, so they will usually agree with everything for good karma.

I wonder if it's the algorithm of Reddit that pushes that junk up to the top of your feed. Like when you can't help but click on something drama-inducing and then Reddit's like "oh yeah buddy you like that drama here's plenty more".

Of course, non-drama stuff doesn't engage as much and doesn't rise up, no matter how much you might click on that.

But yeah, in those spaces, there's a big "smartest person in the room" syndrome.

My experience with Reddit has been pretty short comparatively; only got in like back in... 2021? It was one of those places I had considered not worth learning about, but then people were like "Hey Cyric, did you know the Yakuza subreddit pretty much worships you?" and I'm like "oh that's actually kind of a good feeling" so now I'm on that subreddit and of course I get pulled in the directions of others subs full of drama and here we are.

I've said it before but there's really no difference between Reddit and here. This place has it's own equally dumb jokes like "Man Fan" or "Rick Moranis" This place equally has people talking about shit they have no business talking about.

Why is Reddit getting hate?

Nah I don't think it's that. It's the upvote/downvote system. People have to try to appease the other side or they'll just get downvoted into oblivion and nobody will get to read their message. Regular forums don't have that so everybody gets a voice. On reddit only the hivemind does and if you stray too much you might not get shown, which only amplifies echo chambers
