I was told the same thing with Ramza

you never really know what people are prioritizing year in and year out and the playerbase does change slightly every year, its not impossible for a character to get a deep, top 5 run when given the right circumstances

Yeah, it all just depends on the order of eliminations and people's priorities

Unless you make promises to everybody you couldn't possibly hope to fulfill and it's obvious who the winner is halfway through as a result

Agrias and Minwu were both top 3 recently. Edward and Cid P made finals

I guess its harder with big games just because theres a lot more competition year to year but its possible. Granted there are times that like, Quina and Gau get last standing and immediately die

There is a reason my name is Nominate Moogles, not Save Moogles. The dream is to get them all in. Everything after that is all gravy. Obviously if any of them get real movement I assume I would be obligated to save them at that time, if that happens someone would have to inform me of correct protocols.

That's all bud. I know you never personally held me to it. But MWC I consider my debt paid in full now. I'm still grateful and will help where I can, but since the moment Ramza won I wanted to get Auron a win for you. I don't know if that did it, but I gave the votes. I truly appreciate everything. Hope you'll help again down the line.

Ah that does remind me that I never did my Aerith-saver-thank-you post and I was planning to do like individualized thank-yous to each person that saved her and that would've been beyond even the level of cringe I'm known for posting so, passing on that idea.

But I still wanted to thank everyone who went 10x for her in the finals, we kept things kind of competitive for a bit. To TotallyNotMI for carrying the torch as always, and Kaelee with the steady stream of Aerith savers from the casual early rounds through the crazy late ones. To Pokewars, Suprak, and MWC as the primary traders when I returned, and the additional traders who joined in for the stretch run.

And lefty.... I remember trying to figure out if he had a double-trade arrangement with someone since he was getting Tifa and Aerith every round, I couldn't believe it, living the dream of being on the same team as lefty, hahaha. Ideally we're all back at it again next year!!

So thanks again to Team Aerith (and Team Tifa headed by Koala and BCT, naturally), sorry I wasn't a part of the journey/daily grind, but seems like you did great in my absence so I haven't learned any lessons about my not being here potentially causing great misfortune.

TotallyNotMI, hope you'll be back for the Third Time's run but if you weren't I wouldn't blame you, I was around for 1/10th of the contest and I was tired at the end so I know you have it worse. Ideally I can pitch in more next year, I don't know what my life situation is going to be next summer so can't commit, but ideally I'm in earlier in the process if not from the very beginning. Hopefully we get the team back together and maybe some new pickups!

Now gonna paper over this sentimentality with a giant wall of text stats dump: user success in finals during the lefty era, gimme a few minutes to format that.

So here's some more stats I was alluding to... this morning, I guess? time flies.

We've had 5 finals in the leftystats era but I've really only cared about the last four (also no stats logging for XX so I'm not digging through those topics), I took a look at who saved which finalist in each of the past four finals.

First thing I wanted to see: the most successful, those who saved the eventual winner in all four instances. There are FIVE users who saved the eventual winner - Ramza, Kefka, Squall, Lightning - and also went 10x with saves on each of them, naturally.

So it's at this point I did venture into the cesspool of the XX Finals topic to see what their votes were as a tiebreaker, and 2 of the 5 dropped off:
-v_charon did not save in the finals: can't blame him, but a tiebreaker fail as a result
-Xuxon saved Cid P 10x in the finals: the correct choice for saves given, but wrong choice for the tiebreaker

Which leaves us with these 3 users who not only saved the winner in each of the leftyera's 5 finals, but gave their full 10 save allotment to the winner in each instance:

(Robazoid technically gets an asterisk for also giving 1 save to Delita, not to mention the coin flip Ramza choice, but we'll let all that slide I guess...)

So Xuxon and v_charon join them in being 4-0 over the last four finals, at least. Now how about the other end of the spectrum?

Well as luck would have it, there is only 1 user who went 0-4 over the past four finals, regrettably: StifledSilence! Granted he only gave 1 save in XXII to Delita but for the purposes of this analysis, still counts!

If there's some small solace for him here it's that - again looking back at the XX horror - he did go 10x for Fang there, so he's at least 1-4 over the past five years, but yeah... let's make that 2-4 next year!!!

I was going to put everyone's finals records over the past four contests in username alphabetical order, but I imagine you all remember how you voted in the finals, right? So decided to tier you instead based on your number of finals appearances and outcome records, in descending order while grouping the 4, 3, 2 and 1 finals-saving appearances together. The dilemma was whether to go through the same XX exercise with everyone in scope but nah, I really can't.... just keeping it to the last four finals for now.

As a sidenote, of the 44 users who've saved in each of the past four finals, we're averaging 2.2 wins, above average. So uh.... yay team?

So here's the success records over the past four finals for everyone who saved in the Ramza/Aerith final, excluding some users who only showed up to save Aerith 1 time, you're dead to me, and if you couldn't show up a 2nd time you're probably not reading this right now (and if you are - you're no longer dead to me but more saves next time please!!!)

Well, I'm pretty sure I only voted for the winner once while an active participant in these things (Tidus > Kefka), so I guess I've had better luck just dropping in out of the blue.

I feel like you're the missing ingredient for a Tifa championship run. Just jump in at Day 91 next year (or the end of Day 90 in case of Top Ten qualifying shenanigans) and start double trading for her every round. It'll be like you never left!

Which final did I not vote in? I would believe it if you said I skipped XX, but not sure why I wouldn't have voted for Lightning and Squall. Maybe I was salty about a Kefka loss?

Cyrus is better than both of those finalists, it's true.

Funny I'm 4-0 in the last 4 because I was 1-7 before that (didn't save at all in the Lightning/Marche final). And that 1 was Vivi, a character i don't really like. Granted, two of my favorites still won in that time, just that they were facing each other.

This is part of the reason I really wanted Sephiroth to make the final against Steiner even if it meant a guaranteed loss for him (as it would have meant for literally anyone facing Steiner that contest). As we've seen before runner-up winners stand a better chance of making it back to eventually become real winners.

I voted for Squall over Delita, but now that I've played T I would switch that choice up in a heartbeat.

I think it's just that some characters are so popular they'll eventually get to the top regardless. But characters like Tifa and Terra have waited 18/17 contests since their finals and they've never sniffed it again! I doubt Seph would be a guaranteed run back if he lost at the finals once.

Also FFVII is now down to 3 wins out of 8 finals! (Reno, Zack, Cloud / Tifa, Yuffie, Cloud, Aeris, Aeris)

That truly blows for Tifa. I can't imagine her losing to Edgar Figaro in this day and age. In fact I think she could win against almost any other character if she was just given the chance. I like Aerith more than Tifa and if you do too then keep doing what you're doing I guess. However if you like both equally, like Tifa even slightly more but want to see VII get a victory, or just love VII and want to see it do well (even better than it already does because it does "well" every contest) then you're a fool to keep choosing Aerith over Tifa. I'm saying this as someone with Aerith barely in my top ten and not some hater of her or the game she originates from, but she's had her shot twice now- recently at that- and Tifa hasn't had hers since the 6th contest or whenever. Why converge on her late game unless she's your actual favorite? I legitimately do not understand the logic for anyone other than MI, Poke, Kaelee, or wolley (RIP their participation in this contest)

Kefka was a tough draw sure, but I don't think Ramza was a tough opponent so much as the stars just happened to align for him. We've got evidence of how well Tactics does late game, and it's kind of a mixed bag. While Ramza is the MC and face of the game, I was (falsely?) under the impression that Delita is more popular. I'm not throwing shade at Tactics or its characters, but I don't know that I'd call any of them a tough draw. Also I have very little doubt Tifa would have crushed Ramza 1v1. Again I could be totally wrong, but that's just how I calls it.

Also Ramza is definitely the stronger character IMO, Delita isnt getting nominated for character battles and I think some of the Ramza voters would go for Aerith if he and Ramza swapped places

Delita generally did better than Ramza before this because he has the more hardcore fan support
