I dont think youre incorrect about 2-3 mostly. It definitely has a lot of issues despite my liking it, but I think youre giving Monokuma too much credit. Despite his lofty claims of being a non-partisan observer he constantly forces peoples hands. Most notably in 1-4, 2-4 and v3-1. Hell, the entirety of the funhouse in 2-4 is badically created for the sole purpose of murdering Nekomaru. The secret of the Funhouse you gain from completing the final deadroom cannot be utilized against any other person.

That isn't true. While Nekomaru is most definitely a character that has a uniquely bad position for the affair, the "mystery" could have been used by other characters to kill quite easily if the writing had gone that way. Especially if the killing was not done in a "Danganronpa way" in which the killing method is absurd to the point of only being possible if done/thought as a Rube Goldberg device of bizarre creation.

I also don't know if I agree with the idea that v3-1 was particularly "Monokuma forcing people to do stuff" in any meaningful way. The way that they imply on the whole affair is that it is Monokuma is stirring stuff up under the request of Tsumugi.

And 2-3 was easily the worst case in the series, hands down. From a mystery perspective it sucked, from a character development perspective it sucked, etc. I can come up with plenty of good things to say about every other case in the series, even ones that I think are pretty bad, but with 2-3 I am baffled by the idea that anything other than a rote desire to always love anything with a particular liked character completely coloring someone's belief otherwise. That because Ibuki is in the case in a relevant way that it is somehow amazing, or something to that effect.

I think you should delete that second spoilerblock. I only talk about things TC has already experienced and indicate so by mentioning the case in question before the box.

But in v3-1 Monokuma literally says he will kill everyone if nobody murders anyone else. He also plays inteference for Kaede by blasting that annoying tune to hide her crime. Similarly in 2-4 the choice is kill someone or starve.

Idk, I feel like forcing their hands is different than what he did in 2-3. With the other cases you mentioned, sure, he gave them essentially an ultimatum/deadline to encourage a murder, but with the Despair Disease, it pretty much guaranteed that Mikan specifically was going to kill.

All the other cases you mentioned, sure, he pushed forward the motive for some getting killed more aggressively than he usually does, but it didn't guarantee who would be the killer or who would be killed. With 2-3, of course Mikan was going to kill as soon as she got the Remembering Disease.

Forcing their hands is different than essentially taking away their free will, which is prerty much what happened in 2-3

Gonta being the killer was definitely not something I anticipated, and it's definitely one of the sadder culprit reveals. Second time this series has made me tear up.

It's insane how evil Kokochi is. Like holy shit, how does he fit so much malice into his tiny little body?

Also did they seriously put in the gross incest plot line with the Monokubs just so they could make an incesticide joke at Gonta's punishment? What the fuck.

I really didn't like how involved the Kubs were in the executions. I think it took the focus away from the actual blackened a bit.

They finally found "The truth of the outside world", saw the destroyed Earth, and Kokichi revealed himself as the mastermind, supposedly.

Got real dark there for a sec with everyone, including Suichi, considering suicide.

Something's up, and I feel like there's another twist incoming. I know Dangonronpa likes playing with expectations, but there's no way they'd just leave it there. I'll bet somehow Kikichi isn't the real mastermind, and just somehow stole control over for a sec from whoever the real mastermind is.

Ayyy, there it is. A murder where you dont even know for sure who the victim is? Hell yeah, let's do it.

Hoping it's Kokichi dead tbh. And so far it honestly seems to be leaning that way in the investigation phase, but I guess we'll see.

Chapter 5 has definitely been a wild ride so far.

Chapter 5 really enjoyed toying with your emotions, and really pulled you around from start to finish. You still didn't know with 100% certainty the actual victim till the very end.

Kokichi is probably the most insane character in this entire series. He makes Nagito look tame in comparison.Suichi literally calls him the living embodiment of lying.

"I... Wasn't boring, right?"

That line weirdly hit me. I think that's probably the most genuine moment I've ever seen Kokichi have, and also sums up his character. He's basically a super evil spoiled brat that just does literally anything for kicks, his own or in general. Definitely a "Ya love to hate them" character.

and fuck dudes. Kaito and Maki's exchange right before he died. This fucking game franchise has now made me tear up 3 different times, wtf. Maki fell in love, and he immediately dies.Fucking brutal.

I kept going back and forth most of the game as to whether I loved or hated Kaito. He seemed way too gung-ho to be genuine, and I def spent most of the game suspecting HIM of being the Mastermind. But fuck, he was 100% legit, and now that he's gone, I really miss him. Really good take on that gung-ho best friend archetype in a lot of anime and such. RIP dude.

I love that his last words were "I'm not gonna die the way you want me to." What a great final note to go out on, in a weird, dark way.

Yeah, I don't like it either, especially since if it runs out, it just respawns you back at the last checkpoint (it still frequently saves checkpoints at this point of the game) with the time limit set back at halfway.

Basically everybody gets a "time over" at this point because they don't know what to be looking for immediately, and it only serves to waste time.

Gonna call it for rn, but next time I play, it's time for trial 6.

V3 has def taken a lot longer for me to get through than the first 2, but I've been loving it. There's always a chance I could hate the ending, but as of right now, I'd say I for sure like 3 better than 2. It's pretty neck and neck between 3 and 1 for me tho, I don't think I'll be able to decide till I'm fully done.

I love the implications of Rontaro being a survivor from a previous killing game. Idk yet where they're gonna a conclude with all this, but I love the idea of someone surviving an entire 16 person killing game, getting a survivor perk, and still getting fucking bodied by essentially accident at the very beginning of the new game.

Everything else has been great. But that random ass time limit definitely put a bit of a damper on things. Needless stress for literally no reason.

Even with the time limit, I still talked to everyone and ran conversations out, and investigated every item. Haha. So many game overs, but I did get a few gems from the conversations. Like the one in the library that conversation was pretty fun if you talk to everyone

I don't remember getting a timelimit gameover, but I could just be forgetting it since it was so inconsequential

I kinda like time limits on high stakes moments in games though it's cool

So I stayed up waaaaaay too late last night and finished the game.

I'll post my full thoughts tonight when I get home from work, but God damn.

That was one of the most insane endings I've ever seen. That was fucking incredible.

That was a new level of meta that ended up twisting really nihilistic somehow, like fuck man. There were some truly brutal moments in that trial. Amazing ending.

I'd need to sit down and think about it, but I think V3 is my favorite of the series.

Suichi is def my favorite protagonist of the 3 (4?)

I also love the twist explanation for the game's title. That was fantastic.

That ending is the very definition of "Love it or hate it".

I believe there's some post game mode that has characters interact with each other. Development plan or something, you may want to check that out.

I guess I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but honestly, I feel like it was weirdly the natural progression for the series after 2.

I'm on the love it side and I don't understand peoples complaints when they say they hate it. They seem to think it's a slap in the face to the fans but that's not at all what the ending message was.
