Yeah I think the game is the longest of the series. Has the most side content too.

First chapter was incredible.

Officially finished Chapter 1.

That was fucking great. I kinda expected it to be Kaeda for most of the chapter tbh, but that doesn't take wway from how well executed that twist was. It was pretty obvious like, a quarter of the way through that it was gonna be her or Suichi; but the fake-out protagonist angle was just so fucking good. Fucking love it.

Yeah, it's such a great first impression. It helps I actually like both of those characters a lot so I didn't mind it too hard when they pulled that. Still hurt though.

I actually cried during the end of the trial This game actually made me cry quite a bit. Even when I knew what would happen before it happened

It absolutely felt like it was a good deal longer to me that 1 & 2. Some trials felt like they would drag on much longer than trials from the first two games (sometimes as a positive, sometimes as a negative).

Case 3-1 is definitely a strong point for the entire series. It really stands out.

I tried googling for actual numbers to back this up but couldn't find any so I'll just say it anecdotally - I'd guess the game's like 150-175% the length of the previous ones

Alright, imma say it now before something tragic possibly happens.

I think Ryoma is my favorite character so far. He's such a fucking downer, but in aweirdly awesome way.

I think it also helps that he's voiced by the same guy that voiced Gundham.

The guy that voiced them is pretty nice, too One time, a youtuber had skipped some of the lines while playing the game. And some of his fans contacted the guy. And got him to send the youtuber a message in the voiced of Gundham Tanaka. It was kind of funny

Gundham's voice actor did a livestream of the second game where he voices all of Gundham's unvoiced lines, it's great.

Also, dude has the bonus of actually knowing the context behind those particular scenes as well; and if not, he can always rewatch them to brush back up on his knowledge of the game's story.

Bruh fuck Mind Mine.

My stoned stupid ass thought I had to clear the entire panel, not just unveil the specific item.

Was starting to get real frustrated, till try 4 I rechecked the controls and utilized the "select object" button.

Also Psyche Taxi or whatever it was called was real weird too, I think I preferred the brainwave surfing thing in 2 tbh.

Geez; that ended up being I think one of the more brutal murders in the series yet, especially considering how convoluted and exactly planned it was.

Another character I really liked gone; they're really targeting the super interesting charactes this go around, huh?

V3 has the absolute worst trial minigames.

It has the best version of the Non-stop Debate (though the fact that it starts off a debate by saying Start! Instead of Make Your Argument! Is unforgiveable!), the Debate Scrum is pretty good and though its piss easy, its the most engaging rhytmn game. Mass Panic is also fine.

Psyche Taxi is easily the worst minigame in the franchise. It takes forever, even with upgrades, its process as an allegory for brain activity makes no sense and its so heavily stylized as to be completely immersion breaking. Theres no fucking way Shuichis brain activity would be displayed this way. At least with the Surf game in 2 it has a minimalist design I can believe as a visual representation of Hajimes thought process and it makes sense that you overcome thought obstacles to arrive at a pertinent question rather than starting with an obscure question you slowly have to reveal to yourself.

Imagination Excavation / Mind Mine (why does it have two names?) might have been the worst but its thankfully short. You can do it in like twenty seconds.

Easily the worst version of the Closing Argument. In the other two, one more so than two, I was really ecperiencing the comic as I was making it and considering what goes where. Because theres only a few pqnels unlocked at a time theres much less engagement with the flow and its much more about looking at the panels then the comic as a whole.

The Rebuttal Showdown isnt bad, but the changes they made to it just makes it worse than the original. The weird unlocking of directions is sometimes confusing and having unlimited cuts means youre just spamming the button constantly. In two you sometimes had to think about when to cut, especially if you didnt take the cut amount upgrades.

Hangnans Gambit is a joke. It tries to combine HG 1 and 2 and makes a version worse than both. Hangman in 1 is not much of a minigame but theres a bit of style to it and its just a short break from the trials. Its nice. In 3 its equally not much of a game but it takes longer because you have to sit around and wait for light to go off cooldown and its aesthetic is just really boring. People give HGv2 a lot of shit but I honestly think its great. Its an actual game where you use gameplay to do stuff. Yes it goes hella overboard in the later trials but that clusterfuck is kind of fun in its own way. Its like the designers took that template and removed the thing people complained about. Which was the gameplay. Whats left is just a soulless waste of time.

And I can assure you, if theres any minigame I forgot ti mention its because theyre too bad to remember.

Ooh. Also: I'm calling it now. There's something fishy about Kaito.

First partway through Trial 2's investigation he mentioned how he used to be apart of Tennis Club, yet never mentioned it earlier despite the Ultimate Tennis Pro being there, and now as everyone exited the trial, Gonta made a comment about the stars looking different; Kaito is the Ultimate Astronaut, why the fuck would he not comment on that?

Technically, for Hangmans gambit, you dont have to wait for the light. You do have a flashlight. That said, I was pretty good at remembering what was where Also, I was actually a fan of the second games Hangmans Gambit, as well

I really hate the lying mechanic. I find it completely antithetical to the whole concept of the games. I also think its very poorly utilized. The fact that theres no clear in game indicator makes the possibilities limitless so it really has to be as limited as it is. Yes, the music, but thats not something the game tells you.

Also the fact that you cant check a lie bullet without losing health is just dumb.

I do agree wing able to check would be cool. But I like that you have to figure out when Especially since the indicator isnt to hard to actually notice Well, if youre paying attention

The problem with the mechanic is that it's underused. Otherwise it could have been amazing

Yeah, I've come across it.

It's an interesting idea but I'll be honest; I kinda don't like it. It's seemingly random when it's instituted, and also, with only a couple of exceptions, the game has held pretty true to the concept of "what is said in the trial is (relatively) true, and you form your case around those relatively true statements. Even Monokuma (mostly) follows that guideline. The lying mechanic feels like direct opposition to that, and I don't necessarily dislike that, but after being conditioned towards that for 2 games, it just feels... wrong?

If they'd introduced it earlier, like in 2 perhaps. It might be different. But it just feels real late in the franchise to decide to completely 180 on something like that.

Oh man, idk what the fuck's going on with Angie but the fact the she's actually cobbling together a cult in the middle of all this is kind of impressive.

Angie is my least favorite character in the entire series.
