At long last, here is my full ranking of every student in the main 3 games. There were a good bit of position changes for characters as far as being ahead or behind others from their own specific games., especially with characters from the first game, thanks to further context and development in the other games.

The biggest ranking change from V3 was probably Kirumi; while making this giant ranking, I kept forgetting over and over again who she actually was and had to keep looking her up, so she clearly didn't make all that big of an impression on me. So I retract my earlier statement of Tsumugi being the most boring character >_>

This ranking made me realize I didn't like a lot of 2's character all that much. :/ That said though, 2 does have some of my absolute favorites, like Nagito (who jumped up in rankings) and Gundham. (who I was SUPER close to making my #1, but Shuichi is just such a well developed character, and I think really embodies the overall spirit of the entire franchise more than any other character.)

The first game had a lot of its characters end up in the middle-ish.

If anyone cares, I guess here's a ranking of all of the Monokuma-ish characters; They all kinda suck with Monokuma sucking the least tho. >_>

Still plan on ranking all the chapters of Dangonronpa soon, will probably get to that tomorrow. I at least wanna start up Zero Escape tonight to get a feel for the setting and characters and everything.

Kind've wish that the Danganronpa character elimination game was still around as it would be pretty silly for you to see some of the differences between your list and the "board consensus." While I don't remember the whole thing there are quite a few that I can definitely pick out not having lasted nearly as long as they did on your ranking.

Aw man. That sounds like it would've been a lot of fun.

I think I leaned towards the characters that made things more crazy, so a lot of the antagonistic characters like Nagito, Korekiyo, and Kokichi ended up being higher than I would guess a lot of others would rank them.

I could see Angie getting eliminated early, but I liked the cult stuff with her, added a unique variable to everything.

I do hope they make a 4th game at some point tbh. It's such a fun concept, and for the most part it's executed so well.

I'm already missing playing through them lol.

Lol, this is why I was saying to play Your Turn to Die. The Zero Escape games are great, but there is something to be said about having a whole murder game -> trial format. Your Turn to Die is just Danganronpa with indie jank so it hits almost that exact same itch.

It actually goes a bit harder than you would really realize as someone just getting into the whole thing. A good example of this is how Gundham is your #2 when on the listing he was something like #17 (I don't remember the exact number, just more in the "was just above mid-tier category" is what I recall).

I think Zero Escape will be a good change of pace for a bit at least, then I'll probably circle back to Your Turn To Die.

And I don't really remember exact rationale, if some was even given. It was a poll topic with 30+ people consistently voting, so many characters were voted out without really being given a reason. There was also a fuzziness to the whole thing with the way the voting happened but that more mattered in the lower placements rather than the higher ones.

It does not. It is an indie PC game (freeware) that hasn't ever officially left Japan and has a fan translation.

Gundham is my number 1

Gundham is such a fun, crazy character. It almost pained me to not give him number 1, but as I said, I think Suichi probably has the best overall character arc in the series, and I had to give credit to where it's due.

Unfortunately you've put Miu at 34 and Junko AND Himiko in your top 10, so I won't be following your next topic on games like these.

That's definitely why, and certainly not because I haven't played any of the other games in this genre. Definitely. How dare you do that to Miu though, for shame.

Way lower than me, but at least it's an appropriate number...

Miu is pretty high on the list for me, as well I love her so much So much fun!

I mean, I didn't mind Miu. But she just didn't really seem to add a ton to the overall cast dynamic. She helped with her inventions here and there, was generally abrassive and brash, but other than that she just didn't really do much for me. I'll admit I didn't develop our in-game friendship much so maybe I missed some cool character building, but she was pretty mid-tier for me overall.

Oh, one random note I really wanna make about V3.

In the Mind Taxi or whatever the fuck it was called class tiral minigame, there's one part of the song(s) that loop where it sounds like the dude is saying "Slap.... Slap.... Slap.... Slap your aunt." And that's what I heard every single time, and I just wanted to share that.

Glad you enjoyed the game. I'm not a fan of the ending at all, but I do think it provides very strong closure for the series, and when I was actually playing through V3 I had a good time. I think the cases and characters in V3 are fun, but the ending soured me on the whole experience.

Normally I go through the post-game mode to finish up the "social links" for all the characters. I was initially excited to do this for characters who had minimal screen time like Rantaro, but this time I couldn't get very far at all in the post-game mode.

Once I knew the ending, I couldn't really enjoy the freetime events as much since I knew that every character and backstory is flat out bullshit. While there is the meta element that the characters in 1 and 2 are also "fictional", them being real in-universe still matters to me. Doing the free time events with the V3 cast, I couldn't get invested since everything they're talking about is quite literally made up. Ultimately, I really don't care about the V3 cast at all now because of this.

I don't regret playing it though, and V3 does have some cool moments. I did like Kaito's death scene, since it was a reference to the headmaster's death at the very start of DR1, and it fit with his ultimate talent.

Overall I prefer the writing style of the Zero Escape series and I'm looking forward to your topic on them!
