Board 8 > Franchises with a consensus ranking by quality?

Meaning franchises (with four or more entries, trilogies dont count) be they film, game, book, or whatever where there is near total agreement on the ranking of entries from worst to best.

Heres what Ive got:

Mad Max - Fury Road>2>1>3
Scream - 1>2>5>4>3

Maybe:
Mission Impossible - 6>5>4>3>1>2?
Persona - 5>4>3>2-2>2-1>1?

The more entries in the franchise the better.

I have seen zero consensus on Persona literally anywhere, not just here

Ultima 4 > 6 > 7-1 > UW1 > UW2 > Martian Dreams > 7-2 > Savage Empire > 5 > 3 >>>> 1 > 8 > 2 >>>>>> 9

Quality between Martian Dreams and 3 debatable.

On Persona I think it is more of a case of a vocal minority and people really underestimate how much Persona 5 blew up, and how much better its general reception was - it reviewed the best of the lot, it got a slew if GOTY awards which the series had never done before and even got a TGA nomination. I do not know, it was a latbe after all.

Consensus on Star Ocean is it peaked at 2 and got worse with every game afterward right? Hard to say where 1 or its remake fit into that though and nobody played Blue Sphere.

if it wasn't for the remake you could probably say Karate Kid (i'm personally 3 > 2 but that isn't the general consensus).
The remake fucks that up a bit tho.

That MI list looks extremely wrong too. I don't think there's any consensus there.

I think the closest consensus opinion youd get on Persona is 1 being the worst of them. After that opinions vary too much even if 5 got the most mainstream acclaim and stuff.

Mad Max 3 has had a bit of a re-evaluation recently I think but I always heard that it was the worst one up through the release of Fury Road.

Maybe Legendary Edition changed things by actually including the finished version of 3 as opposed to what they released then charged extra for, but I would not say 3>1 is a majority opinion let alone consensus.

Using Persona 5's immediate success as proof everyone agrees it is better is a bizarre take. Like, the whole reason people immediately checked it out is because Persona 4 slowly but assuredly became one of the most respected games ever. 5 had nearly a decade of hype off the previous entry - of course the follow-up to a breakthrough hit is going to have a bigger launch, and, yes, that can include people who didn't play the former joining the hype train because more people are pushing it. Resident Evil 5 also outsold RE4 by several million, and I'm sure there are tons of other examples. It happens in music all the time.

Persona 4 sold 1 million more copies after being released on Steam, over a decade after its original release. There is enduring love for that game.

Yeah, this is the closest example (for gaming anyways) I can think of and even then there are rabid 1 fans out there, people who didn't care about 3's ending, etc.

ME1 is absolutely more popular than ME3, and I don't think it's close.

I think the only consensus thing with Mass Effect is that Citadel is the absolute best stretch in the series.

It's pretty debatable and depends on whether you are with a hardcore RPG crowd or a casual fanbase. That aside, I really can't think of anything that fits the topic.

Nope. Suicide Mission, Lair of the Shadow Broker and a lot of the things in base ME3 outrank it. Citadel is nice but the main mission with fake Shepard is really not that great.

Also while I agree with 2 > 3 > 1 >>>>> A, I don't think it is the consensus considering more people rank 1 > 3.

It also has Danny Devito and Michelle Pfeiffer not playing the same characters they do in literally every movie unlike Jack Nicholson which earns it some points.

Mission Impossible is a little bit of a stretch, I think. Most folks seem to agree that the last 3 are better than the first 3, but I seem to see a pretty wide range of opinions on how those two trios compare against one another.

Indiana Jones: 1 > 3 > 2 > 4
Die Hard: 1 > 3 > 2 > 4 > 5

I think those are pretty close to consensus.

There's still plenty of people who rank it below forever. Not everyone loves Tim Burton, and at its core its a Tim Burton movie more than a Batman movie. And it's not even a particularly good Tim Burton movie.

I've seen the bottom 3 M&L ranked differently. You're 100% right on Paper Mario though.

i don't think there's a consensus for die hard, other than "1 is at the top and 5 is at the bottom."
