Radiant Historia is the standout to me.

I see the "buy digital" button with the sale price when I go to the individual game pages on nintendo.com.

But if that doesn't work for some reason, I saw someone say the sale is on until January 5th, so you might have time depending on when you get back.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is only in Japan.

Also, Costco and Target have eshop cards on sale, if anybody wants an extra discount to combine with this.

Storywise, I don't think there's any significant story connection besides SMT4A being an alternate take on SMT4. Also most of the games on the list are more dungeon crawlers.

Gameplay wise? Well, most of the games there are dungeon crawlers.

I guess Soul Hackers is skippable if you aren't into the pre PS2 SMT games.

I think SMT4A is regarded to be a little better than SMT4, aside from having a worse story. (I never made it very far in 4A)

the Etrian Odyssey games are a bit interchangeable dungeon crawlers and mostly small gameplay changes. 4 is probably the most streamlined for people new to the series (although I think someone on this board hates it). The Untold games are remakes of the first two games with a fixed party and more story/cutscenes, so some of the series fans dislike it because of that (they also have classic mode where you can use your own party, but some content is locked to story mode). 5 has nonhumanoid races iirc, but I never got around to it yet. Same with Nexus, though I think the idea with that one is mostly about returning content/classes from past games.

PQ is basically just EO with Persona characters and general aesthetics. I guess you could criticize it for not necessarily pleasing either fanbase - EO fans tend to not like it because of the amount of text/story and some gameplay things, while it leans pretty hard on the gags for Persona fans.

Strange Journey is another dungeon crawler, it has some pretty heavy difficulty spike bosses towards the end though (at least in the original version).

Devil Survivor is a generally well liked srpg (though not particularly balanced). Though I think most people prefer the story/scenario in 1 over 2.

Stella Glow is a srpg and sort of a spiritual successor to Luminous Arc I guess, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Radiant Historia is generally liked, other than the gimmick to the battle system wearing a bit thin.

My one problem with Persona Q was how it turned almost every character into a caricature of themselves that showed no development all game. I've yet to play Q2, but I've heard the dungeon design if much tamer.

Also, given what characters are in the party, the way some P4 characters act is wholly unnatural. Characters like Yosuke feel very similar to how they do very early on, when the very narrow window the game can take place in comes after several in game months of development.

Inaba Pride 4 was a good example of how not to build a dungeon floor, though.

I got the 4 games I didn't already have.

Aigis is pretty great in PQ at least

I started collecting the physical SMT 3DS games early last year before the price spikes. Only ones I don't have are Soul Hackers and Persona Q 1&2.

The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is my ridiculous backlog and the fact that Nintendo is weird about digital games (If my 3DS were to die on me, would I lose the games? Or are they tied to my account. I don't know what's what with Nintendo).

Also, I'd HIGHLY recommend Radiant Historia to anyone who's on the fence.

what I was getting at is that Soul Hackers is more like Persona 1 or the SNES SMT games than the ps2 games and onward (since a lot of people haven't played or dislike Persona 1 or the other earlier games). It's first person, there's no press turn or similar mechanics in battle, and you have a resource called Magnetite or something similar that you have to spend to summon your demons at the start of each battle. It's also on the easy side for the most part.

Technically it's a sequel to the original Devil Summoner (aka not the Raidou one, which never got a fantranslation or official english release), although I don't think it really matters much besides some characters making a cameo appearance.

It's so hard to go back to the 3DS, even though I kind of want to play some of those games.

I wish these games weren't trapped on that platform.

Soul Hackers is an enhanced remake of a Sega Saturn game (Though it never got a localization until the 3DS version). No connection at all to the PS2 games, even if the Raidou ones are technically the same series as previously said

I consider it reasonably skippable in general - Strange Journey is a straight up better dungeon crawler IMO. It's fine if you're super into SMT, though.

Yeah, definitely. I was pretty bummed that Nintendo decided the Switch was a successor to the 3DS in addition to the Wii U. I love it as a home console, but its not a real portable.

-How big of an SD card would I need?
-How am I formatting it for the 3DS? Do I need a laptop/computer to download updates from Nintendo before putting it into the 3DS?
-How big in MB is 8000+ blocks?
-How does a new SD card affect what I already have on the system?

3DS can only hold a 32GB without reformating shenanigans.

I transfered my 4 GB starter using a USB adapter onto my laptop, then transferred it to the 32GB from my laptop, then put the 32 in my 3DS.

As far as the 3DS was concerned, nothing changed, it just had a lot more roon.

Also I have to once more recommend getting Culdcept Revolt for 4.99.

For those not familiar, it's a collectible card game + monopoly/fortune street style board game. You go around the board claiming property by placing monsters on it and investing your magic points it to make it more valuable, and anyone who lands on that square and can't defeat the monster guarding it has to pay you a toll.

Easily 100+ hours of story mode content, not getting into challenge quests, free play mode, or multiplayer (although you would probably have to set up matches with discord at this point, and who knows how much longer the servers will stay up).
