How? Why? It can't possibly still get enough attention on this website to still be in the top ten let alone the top 3, let alone pretty much hold #1 whenever there's no hot new game out.

I put hundreds of hours into it on one character over the course of a year or so and then dropped it and didn't play it again....

Until last night where I booted it up from GamePass and am completely sucked right back into it like I was year ago. It's still good. I thought I was just young and stupid, but it's really good??? Like nobody ever topped this. In the past ten years, nobody has ever come close to creating an RPG as immersive and engaging with as many simple and addictive mechanics as Skyrim.

Honestly sad that Cyberpunk turned out to be such a dumpster fire, because honestly if that game wasn't such a mess then it's pretty much the game that has come closest to Skyrim.

I beat the game 100%... twice cuz 2 editions on Steam

Its not that its in the top ten of all games. Its the fact its in the top ten of the community coming to this site. It just shows that the people who come to this site are the same type of people who like Skyrim.

I've finished it 100% a few times.
But I needed mods from day one. The game was terrible without them. That UI was just so terrible. The magic system is awful. Some things are seriously grindy for no reason. The game crashes non stop. Even special edition unmodded crashes most of the time for me right before the dragon comes while your head is on the block. You have to have mods just to stop the crashing. You need a mod to fix the stupid 256mb block size that causes crashing.
I'd call it a 5/10 game before mods bring it up.
Sure having 700 mods makes it look great and can even be very stable. But that's not a good sign for the base game.

Also I have this weird thing that happens... My work keys remind me of the dragon claw keys for some reason even though they look nothing like dragon claw keys... So several times a day when I'm working I'm reminded of Skyrim and I get the itch to play again. Can't explain it.

even if cyberpunk delivered on all of its promises, it would still be nothing like skyrim, or any bethesda game, for that matter

Like it or hate it there's something about it that's totally unique, even though I hate it's lack of true indepth RPG mechanics and ability to roleplay the atmosphere, setting and music is some of the best out there, mods are also a great boon and may fix some of the parts that are lacking. If you really wanted to you could mod the game into something else entirely, sex mods are particularly hilarious.

It cast a wide net to appeal to as many people as possible and it worked fantastically.

There was a way to assign weapons spells to a hotkey for quick equip in the base game

Yes there is. I use it to make a ton of keys to do things like select spells, equip items, change items. I have them bound to my steam controller with 3 layouts of the 25 button views. So 75 hotkeys all though my controller.
