This is quite frankly an idiotic statement brought on by a privileged kid that's never been effected by negative stereotypes. Dangerous comedy exists and it's hard to believe you've lived passed the early 2000s not to see that in the days where trans folks paraded on Maury or Springer being "exposed" as traps for entertainment, or fictional media like Ace Ventura where the villain is just a massive "SHE'S GOT A PENIS, GROSSS" punchline, or jesus fuck that arc of Garrison having a sex change. Even if unintentional, all these negative portrayals in the media for the purpose of "comedy" has the direct effect making trans people afraid to come out, or to even explore who they are.

I'm telling you this from personal fucking experience. I used to hide my own gender exploration back from early childhood, being riddled with embarrassment when discovered and reflexively denying anything going on. Even though I'm from a rather accepting family, the media I consumed was my only understanding of the trans identity - gross, perverted men disguising themselves to be something they're not, and this was very widely accepted as "comedy", and this is how I understood others around me to believe - fuck, just look at the shit MYC had to put up with here in B8's early days. It wasn't until many years I finally got to understand transness, detached from the stereotypes, and identified my own issues which I wish to god I could have done so openly in my youth.

These days Dave Chappelle is straight-up regurgitating anti-trans talking points, agreeing with them... and that's supposed to be the joke? People are actively using these exact same points to legislate against us, get the fuck out of here with this shit just being silly jokes

I combined a few things into one train of thought not realizing you all would explode because I was just vibing at a bar honestly

The embarrassment sentiment was driven primarily by a private chat I had with a couple friends this week about the Rittenhouse trial that opened my eyes to how differently people I've known my whole life could view things compared to my impression of them

It is literally impossible for Gen Z to dunk on Dave Chappelle.

Immediate admittal of being a huge fan. Being a fan of a celebrity isn't inherently a bad thing, but those fans tend to be quick to defend their celebrity very quickly. Multiple examples have occurred in this very topic series.

Chappelle's response to being told that his comedy is killing transgender people is to pivot to black people, because he can't understand oppression directed towards people he considers outside of his group. And his spokesperson's response makes zero fucking sense. What does a high school care about being put on the map?

i don't agree with certain leftists' depiction of the rittenhouse trial either but to say this makes you "more embarrassed to be on the left" is a ridiculous overreaction. you're not going to agree with leftists on every single issue in the universe. that's perfectly normal, nothing embarrassing about it.

as for the chappelle shit, i don't think "chappelle should get canceled" is an outrageous stance at all. i have mixed feelings about this myself. i personally wouldn't say he should get canceled but i also... don't really think this is my call to make, as a person who is not part of the LGBTQ community. having read post #360, i can definitely see the argument for why he SHOULD get canceled.

(also jon stewart has always kind of sucked tbqh)
