I don't know if these are supposed to be secret but I don't care. The only character I actually know below Freya is Locke. I just don't much like Locke so a lot of others ranked ahead of him based off aesthetics alone. I'd only really be happy backing 1-4 in the finals, so this is shaping up bad for me!

Nah I could see the rush on Barret happening even without NRs being offered, I just assume nobody likes Seph (fair assumption) and would save anything else! As we could see in that endgame rush, he's out if not for Xuxon.

Day 85 is over, only fifteen characters remain, which means it's time for the...

THIRD ANNUAL SMFFFC PREFERENCE RANKINGS

The past two years when we were at this point, with 15 characters left, I asked everyone to take the time to do their personal ranking of the 15 characters left by order of how much you'd want them to win.

It doesn't matter if winning is unlikely, or impossible; the sole criteria is the order of who you'd want to win in the order you'd prefer their winning. Which should line up to the order of preference that you'd vote for them in the finals, and I know you might have some weird "I'd vote A over B, B over C but i'd do C over A", no, just like... let's just get some linearity here. A strict ordered ranking of most preferred to least preferred, which will be assigned a rank of 1 (most) through 15 (least) by me.

So all you gotta do is take the list of 15 characters remaining and reorder them in descending order, from most to least preferred. This is the list of characters to rank:

That's it, that's all you have to do. Take those 15 names and rearrange them top-down from most preferred winner to least preferred. Easy, right?

Why now?
How you're feeling right now, at this point in time, can change by the time we reach the end of the contest; I know from my own experience in my preference rankings two years ago, less so last year but there was still some movement. So it's for the best to capture things right now, and maybe we'll do a bonus preference ranking later on but this ranking is most important. You could always do it later and I wouldn't know the difference, but really is better to do it now.

How/when do I get you the list?
You have a few options. The recommended option each year is to make the list, save it in a document (notepad, word, e-mail draft, whatever), let me know you'll be participating so I can make a note that I'll be getting a list in the future, and then after Day 98's over you can send it to me.

Alternatively, if you don't want to do that you can:
-Post your preference ranking right here in this topic; or
-PM me the list

Otherwise, make the list, save it, notify me it'll be coming later, and you can PM it to me after we're past Day 98 (I'll also post asking people who haven't sent their lists yet to send me their lists at that time).

If you PM me your list, please confirm if you're all right with my posting your list as part of the post-game stats or if you'd rather keep them private. If you don't state either way I will follow up to ask and if you still don't confirm I'll assume keeping individual rankings private, but you'll still be included in any stats that look at "average/overall" rankings, and you'd be included in comparison ranking stats but I wouldn't post the full-character comparisons.

What's the output?
I'll be crunching some stats on who "won" and who "lost" with the finals outcome based on their rankings. Last year's final hit the exact midpoint average of a 1 through 15 ranking, at 8.00, the Lightning/Edward final was considerably below average at 8.42. Can we land above the midpoint this year? Can we get at least a 7.59 overall ranking to put us in "positive" territory for a three-year midpoint average? Remains to be seen!

I'll be doing some character averages and other character stats, maybe some year-over-year average perspectives for Top 15 repeaters from the past three contests.

I will also run "comparison stats", a.k.a "savior and nemesis stats", which will identify the other participating user whose rankings most closely align, and least closely align, with you. For the best and worst matches - or whatever matches get asked for really, upon request - I can post full comparison breakdowns. Now that it's the 3rd year, I might even get to doing historical comparisons, seeing if users have matched up the same in one or both previous years.

But while comparison stats are fun and give you your own personalized touch on the rankings, I'm all about the final preference stats and how things ended up vs. how we, as a group, would've preferred things ending.

Last year we had astounding participation with 46 users, including all 25 who participated in the first year participating again. And I am resisting the urge to @ 46 usernames with this post (does Gamefaqs even allow that?), and especially those 25 users so we can see the three-year perspective for them. I'll probably give such a poke sometime tomorrow before the new day's up, but the final stats for the year - and the YOY stats - are certainly fun to see.

Some users with a very good year and a very bad year; Kaelee with two very bad years, as I noted at the time, all four finalists in XXI and XXII had double-digit preference rankings, yikes. Surely there's nowhere to go but up... but the potential worst possible result is 14.5 (which Nanis just narrowly avoided, thank you 14th-place Edea) so there is room to go down...

But it is a new year! So what will happen?
-Is 3rd time the charm for Kaelee?
-Can the Janus, VI and FFD co-winners from last year get the back-to-back? Or maybe MZero, Eddv or Lea re-claim their co-won crown from XXI?
-Can Lea keep up her hot streak of achieving desirable finals outcomes?

It's an exciting time to see 3-year results for these users, and pull in 2-year averages for the 21 new participants last year who opt to participate again. I might even do 2-year comparisons of XXI and XXII vs. XXII and XXIII. And of course, any new users are also welcome as all participants will be included in the XXIII Preference Rankings and Comparison stats.

After Freya there's two characters I may be interested in sticking around to help. I think both of them have better odds of actually winning in a final (Freya is almost certainly the weakest character here for a final) and both are probably falling before her.

But oh well, still sticking with her no matter what.

Got my 15 done and filing away now. Man looking at it like this, it's a weaker bunch than I thought. Only a few I'd actually like to see win.

Also halfway through, only 3/12 top 10 predix remain intact: VI, Martin and Bane. The average overall prediction of the board is also intact atm.
