Would be better off with a more focused and precise index fund like a dividend equity ETF imo

There's no guarantee the top 500 companies will consistently put out dividends, Amazon and Tesla and Google for example are strictly growth based. Put money in the ones that have been pushing growing dividends consistently for decades like P&G or Johnson & Johnson.

Well, the thing is...

  • you need capital to invest
  • capital is frivolous gambling money that you can afford to lose
  • if 30k is lifechanging money to somebody, then chances are its not expendable income

What that means is, if someone dreams of one day owning 30k. They aint going to invest it, they probably need it to live. They'll pay off a debt, or use it to get a house. Thus, it'll be gone in a year or so.

It depends on the income bracket. For lower/working class sure. But for some people they spend 30k on a watch. Or YOLO into GME/AMC call options.

Depending on your circumstances (including debt, where you live, etc) and your definition of "life-changing," maybe. It can certainly turn things around for some people. Others? Not so much.

It would "change my life", yes.

Now, define "life changing". Is building an expansion on your house life changing? Yes. Buying a new car? Yes. Your life is different. It has changed now.

Life changing no. But life altering maybe. It wouldnt change anything major in my life but I could put something like that somewhere I didnt previously have the spare cash to use. I'd use that to help out my in laws with health issues.

Would be nice to have. Either to invest, add to my security funds or just use it for a vacation. But definitely not life changing. I imagine it would be for some people, surely. Pay off student loans, get out of debt, upgrade to a reliable, down payment on a house vehicle etc. depends on the persons situation.
