Slant Magazine made a good observation about this: LeBron James basically spends the whole movie being awestruck y the Looney Tunes and everything that's going on, whereas Michael Jordan spent the original Space Jam being cool; relatively unphased by it all.

Dumb topic. It was unique film for having famous athletes with 2d cartoons characters. Closest movie like that was 1988's "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". It also brought some of the most popular songs in the 90's. Which was R Kelly's " I Believe I Can Fly" and Quad City DJ's "Space Jam".

The insane amount of advertising done left a big impact on people. Over time they forget the content of the actual movie but still remember the commercials. Looney Tunes, MJ, McDonald's, all that sorta stuff, so they just assume it left an impact on them because it was good and not because it was just hyper ultra mega-marketing composed of lots of good things.

I thought the original movie was terrible even though I loved MJ and Looney Tunes. I was probably too old. I thought the acting was terrible and the cartoon characters were too shiny or something. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was WAAAAAAY better. Looney Tunes Back In Action was better (and I thought the Walmart oasis was brilliant advertising and a funny joke). Also that damn R. Kelly song was everywhere and that was annoying as hell.

My 13 year old son watched it on Hulu the other day and liked it though so good for him I guess.

I dont understand how this shit can bother people. Its clearly a joke meant to play off of Michael Jordans commercials. Thats it.

Its like people see references to real life companies and go OMG MARKETING THIS IS HORRIBLE like dude wtf do you want them to just make up off brand generic bullshit instead? It literally doesnt hurt anybody to make references to real world things but people always lose their minds at the idea that a character in a movie walks by a Malboro billboard or whatever, and in the quoted example, its meant to play off of specific things done by Jordan IRL, just like how the movie references his time at NC, the Bulls, his baseball career, etc etc.
