I loved running when I actually did it. The problem was the long-term damage it was doing to my knees.

Now I feel like I couldn't really get back into it even if I wanted to, without seriously exacerbating my knee issues that are already starting to become a bit annoying.

Right now, I have to run for my PT test. But Im going to go to the doctor to see what I can do about that. My feet and ankles have been in pain for a couple years. So, I might see whats up with that. And if that doesnt help me to get out of running, Ill check to see if I have asthma

I dont mind running on my own since I can just listen to music. But I hate running for the test

Also, I think @hockey7318 likes running

Running is stupid. Every once in a while you get a run that feels amazing and like you could keep going for miles, but most of the time it feels like I might need to shit in a neighbors yard, my heart may explode, and most definitely my joints are all going to be ground to dust before I hit 50. The only reasons to run is because my dog absolutely loves it, I have to do something active because my wife kicks ass every *clap* single *clap* day, and because it's so much easier to walk out the door and run instead of drive to the gym. The only thing I really like about it is the mental challenge of upping the mileage and ignoring all of my own whining and still getting more done before most people have woken up in the morning.

All in all though, running is dumb. You should never do it again.

After one of my coworkers mentioned breaking a leg while running iirc, I think I decided against ever getting into it... not that I'd ever been into it in the first place.

Like Pat Morita said in some b-list monster monster (and less of a direct quote here), "I'm not built to run, I'm built to last."

I would have a struggle inside when running long distances.

Youve done 4 miles. Stop. Why go for 6 miles? Stop. Just do two more tomorrow.

And I liked running. So I imagine its worse for those that dont like it.

For me it's normally more like, "This is feeling fine so far, go the extra mile before turning and make it 10." Then I turn and realize the wind was at my back, sun's now in my face, and that I'm going to regret that I didn't end up going another mile and a half to make it a half marathon because 10's close enough I might as well really make it suck.

damages the tissue of the heart itself, long distance running isnt something our bodies are designed to do

it can cause scarring which can increase plaque buildup among other things. Some peoples bodies obviously handle it better than others, but I think a lot of people dont know about the cons of running

Yeah I hate running although I was pretty good at it in school. That was on grass though, you should never run on cement. I injured myself badly once in army training when we had to run 5km on some dodgy road with potholes. I ended up with tendonitis in both ankles and my feet blew up like beach balls. I wasn't able to run properly for like a year after that. Nowadays I don't bother at all, I just walk normally to workout my ankle tendons along with calf raises sometimes.

I like running, on a treadmill, with A/C on, when I can watch Netflix. Outside, in Florida humidity/temperature, no thanks.

I wish I could still ride a bike, unfortunately the motion does something weird to my knees. Makes it really easy to dislocate them.

I think that's mostly true of people that are running ultras and really putting their heart through quite a bit of prolonged exertion. There doesn't seem to be much information on whether there is anything other than benefits towards heart health for more normal levels of running. I'd imagine that less than marathon level is not going to do anything but good for most people's hearts.

Actually running is pretty natural for humans. Just not on concrete which is a harsh artificial surface that causes serious injury. That's why marathon runners (road) and tennis players (hard court) have so much joint issues. But human body has evolved to be able to run long distances. Apart from intelligence, endurance is the one big advantage we have over most animals. They are more powerful but can only run a few miles at most. So in the past humans hunted stuff by wearing them to death and running them down. That was on grassland though.

Human evolution has driven us to be efficient runners, but not for decades of wear. Human evolution didn't really take living beyond 30-40 years old into consideration.

Good point that's true. People didn't live that long to where their bodies would degrade.

Backpack sweat is the worst. I really need to stop being lazy and get a rack for my bike so I can keep my stuff on that instead of in a backpack.

That's why biking's great. All the zoom (and then some), none of the effort.

Of course, you have to go much, much further and really go out of your way (mostly to avoid coasting/easy downhills) to get the same amount of exercise out of biking as you would spending the same amount of time running, but that's beside the point.
