I don't actually want my rating to contribute to the stats since I didn't finish the game, but I would have given it something like a 6 or 6.5. Mostly neat ideas with mostly not so great execution that failed to actually get me invested, at least up to the point I was at.

To reference a conversation from the #vgmusic Discord channel last night, this is a game I would describe as "interesting but not good"

Incredible presentation, interesting structure, fantastic blending of storytelling with gameplay, great character work across the board, and intense ideas on the nature of life itself that always compels to the core.

One of the best stories to come out in any media in the last 5 years.

I'd say the beginning is by far it's weakest point and it takes a while to really get going but then after the ending, the story really goes into overdrive and is one of the wildest rides I've been on in a video game for the subsequent endings. It was amazing. I also prefer Automata's story to the original which was also great.

I could do with a replay because I've softened on it over time but it's some really incredible storytelling the first time through

I really want to give it a 10, but I have to go with an 8.

I blame the second playthrough, but I really don't know how you could fix that without losing a lot of the great parts.

While I think the story is very good I do also think it relies too much on inciting a singular emotion from the player.

9.5, I had a great time playing this. I do think the second playthrough doesn't differentiate itself enough from the initial one, but boy does it make up for it with the third. As others have said, it has great themes, enjoyable characters, a fun fresh approach to storytelling in a video game, and man it is just utterly relentless with what it's trying to do.
