Like did they do something really awful a thousand years ago that made global news and everyone refuses to let it go?

Im no expert but I did take a couple courses on religions when I was in college and I dont remember anything about Judaism that seemed bad or wrong to me.

Is it just because there arent a lot of them in comparison to other religions? So its easier for them to get picked on?

They are different and make an easy target, in addition to being blamed for the death of Jesus... which was the intentions of god which makes the whole being angry about it thing weird.

this partly. the scene where Pilate wants to spare Jesus because he didn't seem to really deserve the punishment, but the crowd (of Jews) demands he be executed, even saying to release a murderer instead (Barabas?).

also though, they have been seen as a sort of lower-class ethnic group (as far as I know, somewhat similar to gypsies who also have been persecuted) who are seen not to contribute to society as much as "normal" hard-working people who learn valuable skills.

if you've seen stereotypical "merchant" races in games, like goblins, or Ferengi, those are basically Jewish stereotypes. anti-semitic propaganda will say that by being traders and merchants, they actually contribute nothing to the economy and instead leech off of it.

I do not have a more deeper understanding of it than that though; this is not an area of expertise.

Funny enough is that the comments are a mix of "and the media calls this song anti semitic!" yet at the same time, with no references to jewish people, the comments are distinctively anti semitic.

So the song itself isn't really anti semitic, because it just has pretty basic lyrics against "the man" but fans of the song definitely are taking the jewish angle and running with it, while I guess people not really in the loop can't really figure it out.

Alot of people seem to have Jewish people at the center of a bunch of conspiracy theories. Like they secretly control the world behind the scenes.

People conflate "old rich men" with "jews" a lot of the time, I think.

There's also a pretty big amount of jewish hate in the bible, which considering it's the holy book of christianity, factors in.

Largely because they're taught to or influenced to by their parents or role models. Prejudice doesn't derive from logic and generally can't be logicked away.

Why did those prejudices arise in the first place? There are probably lots of reasons, they likely didn't all arise at specific times over the past 2000 years. Jews were basically the most prominent minority group in Europe for over a millennia so there are lots of opportunities for shit to start.

Antisemitism appears to have been pretty prominent even before the "death of Jesus." Old Testament and Torah are full of Jewish people being persecuted.

In late antiquity as Christianity spread predominantly among Genties in Europe, the idea of Jews being those who believed in the same god but rejecting Jesus. The was especially prominent after the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD when Christians at the time considered it part of their punishment.

Later, as already mentioned in the medieval period after Christianity became dominant in Europe, usury was outlawed by the church (still is outlawed in Islam too), so Jews went into the banking and financial sectors since those laws did not apply to them and it helped fulfill a needed at the time. This was how the stereotypes of Jews being greedy began.

It should also be noted that since Jews could not own land back then, they chose careers that did not depend on the land and could allow them to get good paying work if they were displaced, which led many to take what today would be considered white collar jobs that required more education such as medicine, engineering, and such. This combined being in the financial sector led to them being more affluent than most of the population of where they were at furthered the stereotypes.

On top of that Jews in medieval and early modern times largely kept to themselves in tight knit communities and not willing to convert to Christianity led to them being seen as outsiders.

As a result of all of the above conspiracy theories grew and made it easy to scapegoat them when anything went bad.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy when you look at how much hatred they've generated over the millennia. They've been expelled from dozens of different cultures all around the world, almost everywhere they settled time and again. If not expelled then bearly tolerated because the rich people of the area wanted loans or financial advice, and many times they've been outright killed as everyone knows.

Obviously they still get a ton of hate today and I'm not trying to downplay that but it's inspiring to see how high in society the people have risen. Hollywood and other famous American institutions couldn't function without their Jewish members. All with having such a small population to boot, only like 2.5% of the total population in America. I'm suprising there hasn't been a movie made about the phenomenon, it's a quintessential underdog story that other marginalized minorities could look up to.

Basically, Christians.

This is a lot more sensible than it might seem. For Barabbas to be called a murderer by Pilate, he must have killed a Roman citizen. This likely made him a hero to the Jews living under Roman rule.
