I haven't been to a shopping in more than 5 years.

I havent gone to one in a long time. Not because of Covid. Just because I havent gone to one. I havent really felt like it. That said, I still shop at store at malls. They are the ones where they open to the mall. But also to the outside. So, I guess I kind of do... But thats for the indoor ones. Outdoors ones (shopping centers/town centers) are probably fine. But I havent really been around those, either...

Hadn't been to a mall in over a decade before I came here. Tabletop rpgs, not videogames. I literally only went because its where this town's gaming hobby shop is at and I wanted to introduce a coworker to D&D.

I rarely ever shop at a mall. I've probably done more PIN pad installs at mall stores than I have shopped at them in the past 10 years.

I used to like to go to malls when they were architecturally interesting. Now they're just bland corridors, no more fountains, multi level walkways, carpeting, and curves on everything.

Looking at these photos, I think I figured it out. No kiosks. No carts full of merchandise in the aisles. The center of the mall is wide open, or there are planters and benches and fountains and stuff, making it much more inviting. Now they just try to cram as much consumerism in as will fit, there's no space.




Last time I went to the mall there were so many carts and junk in the middle it was actually difficult to get from one place to another. Several times I had to stop and step aside to let a family past because there was so little walking space.

Very rarely to never. With Amazon being a thing and the fact that there's no mall remotely close to where I live, it just doesn't happen.

I ocassionally get dragged to one when somebody else shops there. But I don't choose to go to one for shopping.

About the only time I ever go "shopping" at all is when I'm buying Christmas presents for people. Then I'll shop around in malls. Otherwise, the only times I go to a mall are when I'm looking to buy something from a store that happens to be in one.

I shop at a grocery store that happens to be in a mall. I've also shopped a couple times at the Best Buy located in the same mall.

This for me as well. Though it might be closer to 10 years.

I have multiple malls near me, and I used to go to them fairly often. Sometimes I'd go to Suncoast to buy DVDs, or Borders to buy books, or my local hobby shop to buy tabletop RPG books, or the local comic book shop, and even stores like Electronics Boutique or Babbages to buy games.

But a funny thing has happened over the last 15-20 years or so - pretty much every store I ever went to the mall for no longer exists. So now I have no reason to ever go there.

About the only stores left that even remotely cater to my interests are FYI (which I don't go to because their selection is kind of crap and almost everything I want is more easily acquired via Amazon anyway), and GameStop (where I refuse to shop due to shitty sales practices, and again, it being way easier to get most games via Amazon, or even at Wal-Mart/Target).

I was never one of those kids who just hung out at the mall as a place to be with friends, so I have no real nostalgia for it or a reason to go there if there's no stores I need.

I went to the local outlet mall the other day to buy some extra plates at the Corelle outlet. It was gone. OK, let's browse the cookware shop, they always have neat stuff. Gone. Alright, how about getting something yummy at the Lindt chocolate store? Nope.

So what is there?

Clothing stores. Nothing but fancy overpriced clothing stores. Nothing at all in my size and nothing in my style.

What about becoming a place for people to live? They could renovate some of the stores to apartments and put in a grocery store, post office, etc. and people will never have to leave their building

No, shopping malls in my area are pretty much clothes stores, zoomer entertainment (VR places, indoor mini golf, etc.), and Barnes & Noble.

I'll go into Barnes & Noble from time to time, but I never enter the actual mall.
