The studies show blue states had a worse start but blue states are also more populous so that makes sense?

Most blue states are also at typical points of entry for the country (such as air or sea), so of course a crowded entryway is going to see a mess at first before anywhere else. And by the time our country realized the virus might have reached our shores, it had already spread to the red states, but the symptoms were still developing in the aforementioned blue.

Well according to this graph from the CDC, it looks like your big blue states are killing more people than average. Statistics sure are fun.

Honestly, it took long enough to take root in states other than NY, Washington, and California that pretty much every other state could have gotten it under control with quick, decisive measures to limit the spread and restrict interstate travel. Instead, the country spent four months arguing over whether or not the disease even existed, fighting against infection control measures, and insisting that, if it did, it was only going to be major cities in those states that had anything to worry about. That's the real tragedy here: Everyone saw this outcome coming, and it didn't have to be this bad.

Is that graph actually published by the CDC or are you sharing an image someone created using a snapshot of data? I'm dubious that graph was published by the CDC.

I'm also dubious you actually have any real interest or expertise in stats or data analysis, and rather you just share images that confirm what you want to believe.

The first one is directly from the CDC. Those states are the easiest to compare because of similar size and population density. Plus its two hardcore liberal states vs Florida who people gave a lot of flack for the way they handled the Coronavirus.

So why don't you look at the totality of the data instead of cherry picking three states to suit your agenda?

Where is the second one from? I notice you didn't reference that source. Curious.

Just a quick glance at covid stats per capita across the country and number of deaths and cases per capita are fairly uniform throughout the entire nation. And still, the overwhelming majority of covid cases, regardless of whether a state is red or blue, are in the major cities which are all blue.

Not saying that this is because they're run by democrats, but what i am saying is that the mayors in these cities were within their legal ability (due to trumps executive orders involving lockdowns) to add regulations and restrictions in addition to whatever state mandates, or lack thereof, that there were.

Sometimes the governors would fight back but, if anything, the situation with Kemp fighting mayor bottoms on regulations showed that the local level generally triumphs in such situations. And ironically enough, the local level is the best place to fight anything enacted unconstitionally by the state or federal government. Federal and state do not trump local authority. It's not hierarchical. It's separate spheres of influence and all are subject to the constitution which is the only higher authority period

New York was caught unaware and hospital systems overwhelmed without any warning or preparation because covid was kept secret by the White House.

the jump in deaths between 2019 and 2020 is a completely inaccurate measurez

what IS a measure is the mortality rate of Covid 19 patients vs the number of cases recorded in that state with Early New York Deaths considered the outlier.

once the moron spring breakers started spreading it in 2020 well after we knew about covid 19 is when comparison should be made because by then the circumstances were similar.

some Southern state had mortality rates over the summer significantly higher than northern cities but there are also a much wider range of contributing factors such as poor health of their residents compared to so called typical blue states. But that is not entirely true across the board. Large cities like Miami and Houston also tend to have less obese than rural hick towns.

also a lot depends on their health care systems overall.

I didnt delve into this study but Im sure its limited and pretty much set up to further someones political ego and not an accurate tally of all of the factors and all of the data that takes a wide range of circumstances into account.

enhoy it read it take it for what it is.

As a Floridian, I know that the Miami area has complained for months about how bad Covid-19 is there. Florida's governor (a true Trump apostle, btw), cherry picks stats, like not put nonresidents in with residents when it comes to Covid deaths, etc; so nobody really knows how many people in Florida have been exposed, have had, or have died from Covid-19. He even sent an armed police detail to the home of a woman that he'd fired because she was 'not doing what she was told' as far as Covid stats were concerned, just as she started a new business of coming up with her own list of stats on how many died of Covid, etc. Everyone here knows that any stats coming from the state government are of dubious, if not highly questionable, value.

I keep getting into arguments because my roommate watches apparent 'progressives' that ONLY dunk on Democrats, mostly AOC. It all seems really disingenuous and ignorant to me when exactly 0 Republicans support progressive policies. Democrats shit the bed too, but I'm pretty tired of the blind eye so many people give to the Republicans, who will never offer anything in terms of constructive policies.

Surprised it took this long for someone to mention that it's been proven that FL's numbers are fabricated, omitted, or otherwise altered. Which makes sense why the troll alt keeps specifically mentioning Florida.

You guys say that, and I vaguely remember some controversy about it, but so far I'm not finding any corroboration that the numbers are actually false. From the brief amount of research I did, we don't seem to have any corroborating evidence that Rebekah Jones is correct that the numbers are being falsified. Even Politifact reluctantly agrees that early reports of falsification were wrong and then begrudgingly agrees that Florida has been doing better.
