The virus has turned out to be much less dangerous than we thought when we first responded, but we still act as if it's a death sentence. People who are at risk need to be safe, everyone else needs to get on with their life.

yup. that is the vibe here too, even at the biggest shopping malls in Chicagoland. Theyre increasingly packed since two months ago and covid cases are not skyrocketing

if anything theyve declined significantly.

My take: Corona killed a lot of people, but I don't think it killed as many people as was feared would die at the beginning. Was Corona not as bad as they thought it would be? Maybe.

But even if all of that is true the next Pandemic might not be. We COULD get something that kills 10 percent of the people or even higher. Seeing all the infighting and people who still call it a "plandemic" makes me worry about when we do have something FAR more serious.

there is a right way to solve that problem, and it is to make sure we have a proper federal plan around direct cash distribution to households and individuals

with how much was spent so far we could have given every household $50,000 in cash instead of bailing out airlines who lay off people anyway, and etc

I've been on this for 9 months, we need to quit acting like x amount of time under perfect conditions will end it all. 2 weeks became months with no end in sight, so people said screw it so even if it was just taking longer, that dam has broke. Now we pick a path, either open up and let the chips fall where they may, or we start the moves for the long term economic and mental health needs of the people that have left them thinking the virus is the less serious threat. Not UBI, but an actual path to work from home jobs and socialization methods.

I think that's because they're in the "it'll go away" camp so every move is made to be short term and quickly revoked when cases drop. I don't advocate it, but I do tell lockdown people "okay, but these problems come with, so you better have solutions."

The virus doesn't have an end date. We need to adapt as a society. Trying to get back to normal is keeping us from getting back to normal.

If you want to make sure we can keep a handle on COVID and future pandemics going forward, there are lots of great ways to do that or at least make it easier, but somehow I doubt Bloomberg would be in favor of a universal healthcare system or revoking the vaccine patents or anything else like that.

Dude, I gave you a path to keep lockdowns happening. Some of us are not blind to the rise in suicide, domestic abuse, substance abuse and more coming from isolation and long term financial concerns leavine many of us in poverty. You want more lockdown, fine, but it will make those worse, so be prepared to deal with them or this effort to save live may cost more than it saves in the long run.
