The company invested in locks which means the company thought it was economically necessary.

They didn't waste money on locks for shits and giggles. Especially when these companies are cheap in a lot of areas beneficial to their staffs work life.

i think youre missing the point here.

they invested in locks as part of their security over product stock.

but putting locks on the toilet paper doesnt mean theyre not offering that toilet paper to customers. >_>

There was no stockpile of extra rolls in Target or Walgreens bathrooms where I worked.
The only rolls were the rolls inside a locked box inside the stalls. One roll, per stall. It was the staffs job to monitor and replace it using a key.

And no, they invested in locks because theives kept stealing it.

The only point being missed is this false idea that no one would steal. That's literally untrue. Theft became such a problem to the company they invested in locks for toilet paper dispensers.

I dont care if a company adds tampons or not. Its not my money. However this false idea thieves wouldn't steal or clean it out in some areas/neighborhoods is simply false.

I assure you the kinds of kleptomaniacs you're talking about are not going to be discouraged by not having a tampon dispenser in the bathroom.

Like you as I've already said I used clean public bathrooms in highschool. I'd find what was very obviously fresh product boxes opened & the contents missing when changing the trash in the bathrooms all the fucking time. Not just tampons but literally anything. Even food like they went into the bathroom to get a free lunch or something.

So now your justification for free shit is "people steal anyway"?

Dude, it's so mandatory that before it was around, the only way to deal with it was for women to basically poison themselves by reusing rags to soak up the blood. Because poisoning themselves like that was still better than being tossed out by society for being "gross".

They should be free.

No. It's a dumb talking point. Anyone who cannot afford them needs more help than just a singular subset of necessary sanitary products and toiletries. If there is actually a large swathe of people who need them and cannot afford them, then it'd be better to use that money to focus on making sure they have every self-care product and necessity available to them.
No, it's not. And your argument is a logical fallacy. This would definitely help a lot of disadvantaged women. Of course money should be used in making sure women have every self-care necessity provided, but not only does free pads/tampons not detract from that, it actually starts to make it a reality. You're basically saying, "We should offer them everything they need, but we can't, so let's give them nothing," instead of realizing that this is the first step in making it happen.

Yes they should be free in public areas and for those who cannot afford them, the homeless for example, here they are already provided free in school bathrooms, and these are the proper brands (tampax, always ect, not cheap versions) - they do not compare to other hygiene products, you aren't going to bleed all over clothes, or be forced to stay indoors every month for lack of toothpaste for example

Leaving the same product in there for too long can literally cause the body to poison itself.

alright I'll adress this as I dunno if anyone else did as cba to read all the topc, no woman is going to leave a tampon in for too long because they can't get anymore, there comes a point where it will leak and become useless anyway

Paper towels are free in public restrooms.
Soap is free in public restrooms.
These are items used to maintain hygiene.
Yes, tampons and pads would be free in a public bathroom, just like those items are.

Only reason they aren't free in public restrooms is because men don't have periods.
This is true, and yes, they should be free. People act like "free tampons" means you can just walk into CVS and grab a handful and walk out. I don't know why people seem to forget you aren't paying for the paper and soap in any public restroom you use

If someone cannot afford something so basic, then they're missing a lot of other necessities. Instead of some broad campaign that'll cost tens or hundreds of millions to put into motion for just one specific need that only impacts those destitute women, it'd be more sensible to focus that money on making sure they can get everything they need. It's dumb because it's hyperfocused for the the sake of feeling like you're making a virtuous argument.

All women benefit from it not just destitute women. It's also not just about money but about freedom to go out and do things and not have to worry about suddenly needing to cancel your plans because you have to go home to change your pads before you start bleeding all over your pants.

Again, your argument makes no sense. How would focusing the money on everything women need cost less then starting with giving women one thing they need? You start small and work your way up. I don't understand how you don't understand this. And by using the word dumb to back your argument, well, it makes you look dumb. I think maybe you should think more before posting

What a wild ride of a topic. Yes, tampons and pads should be available for free, and it would also be good if menstrual cups were administered for free. To questions like "should toilet paper be free? toothpaste? food?" the answer is "also yes", that sounds great. I would like that very much.
