Do you expect the same blowback from conservatives over this casting like they did with the first female doctor?

30 y/o Gay Singer and Actor, Olly Alexander is tipped to be the next DOCTOR WHO who will be the first Gay Doctor replacing the first FEMALE Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, who stepped down from the role following the exits of 2 of her companions.

He became a household name thanks to his role in Russell T. DAvies "It's a Sin" about the AIDS pandemic and it's impact on the gay community

Although he's not officially announcing it, sources say he has been chosen and Davies says he would be the perfect fit for the role to represent the gay community

He would also be the youngest doctor who ever at the ageof 30 and when asked about it, he said "I mean, if i was do you think i'd be able to tell you? It's true i am very indiscreet but my lips are sealed"

He would be the 14th doctor has he admitted it would be a dream role if it actually happened because he's loved it since he started watching

The showrunners have longed been pushed to have more diverse doctors as they've only featured white males before Whittaker but producers were now going for a different direction with different doctors and to have its first Gay doctor would show it s diversity. Although some have longed for a black doctor, it doesn't look to be in this time around.

Whittaker has been the doctor for 3 seasons as the reveal of the first female doctor had been met with mixed reaction as progressives praised the show for finally having a female in a lead role while others call it pandering to social justice demands.

Do you expect the same blowback from conservatives cause they cast a Gay Doctor like they did with the first Female Doctor?

Sexuality matters less than sex for the role, but that guy doesn't look right for it at all. Also why is his sexuality the bigger deal here? He looks to be the first ginger Doctor, something that they've brought up many times on the show, including one instance where the newly regenerated Doctor mentions he's always wanted to be a ginger.

Regardless, the showrunners basically gave up on Doctor Who years ago and so have I. They could cast the first dog Doctor and I wouldn't care... well, no, maybe I'd be more likely to watch that, but I imagine it would get old fast. Very few shows can really pull off a dog lead. Wishbones are few and far between.

Gay doctor is whatever. I'll be kind of surprised if he has a long running gay love interest in the vein of Rose, but props if they commit to that. I would have predicted a black doctor before this.

Admittedly I dropped the show a few years ago and probably won't get back into it until we get a big tiddy goth doctor.

Um haven't other incarnations of the Doctor been teased as not totally straight. Definitely when Captain Jack was on I recall some steamy moments. And Jack is one of the most popular characters in the shows history.

PS I had no idea this guy was into acting that much. I remember him for being the lead singer of Years & Years. And he wouldn't be the youngest Matt Smith was only 26 when he got the job. He was my favourite of the modern crop too.

The only thing we'll never see is an American Doctor >_>

Also, if they were going to do a black Doctor, it would have happened before the woman Doctor. Plus Idris Elba is just getting older and older, and there really aren't many black British actors people recommend for everything >_> They'd have to cast a Frenchman or an American, and the ensuing scandal would cancel the show forever.

I don't think that's really true? Every body has a distinct personality and they've displayed different degrees of sexuality. It's entirely reasonable for one to be gay and one straight.

It wouldn't work. The audience of the show is still mostly straight dudes, so generally want a female love interest. I feel like if they go too far with the gay agenda it will be another failure just like the female doctor. Gay doctor could work if he has woman assistant and only hints that he may be gay, but gay relationship, no way. This aint no broke back tardis over here.

Regenerating as the same sex makes far more sense than regenerating as the opposite sex. There's less changing involved.

This. She's been giving it 100% the entire time, but Chibnall and the writers have really let her down.

I mean, nothing against Sascha Dhawan, I love his Master, but when the seldom-appearing villain has a more compelling story than the lead, there's a problem.

I know nothing of Dr. Who but I keep seeing it pop up in my youtube feed with people complaining about the exact same thing. Namely that the writing is terrible and has become more focused on being political/agenda-pushing than anything else. I feel that their focusing on casting a gay actor and making the Doctor gay and focusing on THAT instead of other things means that the writing staff haven't really learned and the spiral will continue.

But hey, I don't watch the show, never had any interest in it, and know nothing about it's community and the like. Just that I want it to stop popping up in my Youtube feeds as I have no clue at all why Youtube keeps recommending me hot takes on a show I don't even watch.

I need to still watch Jodi's episodes. I only got to see 3 before moving 2 and a half years ago and then not having BBC.

That said, whether the guy is Gay or not I don't care but I don't really like his look, I don't know if he could pull off The Doctor in a satisfactory style.

Because talking fish are harder to animate and would introduce a bunch of functional limitations to the character that would stop being entertaining once the novelty wore off within 1-2 episodes, and robots are inorganic and therefore not valid candidates for biological regeneration. Duh.

You're talking about magically reincarnating into a new person. Saying that new person has to be the same sex is a completely arbitrary limitation that you're making up purely because you don't want to admit that your entire point is "it's different and I don't like it."
