He looks to be the first ginger Doctor, something that they've brought up many times on the show, including one instance where the newly regenerated Doctor mentions he's always wanted to be a ginger. Regardless, the showrunners basically gave up on Doctor Who years ago and so have I. They could cast the first dog Doctor and I wouldn't care... well, no, maybe I'd be more likely to watch that, but I imagine it would get old fast. Very few shows can really pull off a dog lead. And Jack is one of the most popular characters in the shows history. PS I had no idea this guy was into acting that much. I remember him for being the lead singer of Years & Years. And he wouldn't be the youngest Matt Smith was only 26 when he got the job. Namely that the writing is terrible and has become more focused on being political/agenda-pushing than anything else. I feel that their focusing on casting a gay actor and making the Doctor gay and focusing on THAT instead of other things means that the writing staff haven't really learned and the spiral will continue. But hey, I don't watch the show, never had any interest in it, and know nothing about it's community and the like. That said, whether the guy is Gay or not I don't care but I don't really like his look, I don't know if he could pull off The Doctor in a satisfactory style. Regenerating as the same sex makes far more sense than regenerating as the opposite sex. There's less changing involved. Does that matter much, though?
