Is the joke here that each of these guys is notable for something very specific?

Anyway the answer is Coolidge probably.

that was my thought, but he's got those stories about being quiet and stoic that are well-known enough laymen sometimes relate. his presidency was nothing, but his personality was noteable, at least

Voted Benjamin Harrison. Feels like a close race between him and Taylor, Fillmore, and Pierce. Calvin Coolidge was the greatest president of all time.

I hesitated on Coolidge simply because he's the only one on the list to serve more than one term. He was VP to a corrupt president and managed to get reelected, which at least puts him above Ford.

But, that's why I put "Other" in the poll list.

except Ford pardoned Nixon which is intensely important and well-known

Eh, good point. I wanted a post-WWII president on the list, and for some reason, Ford slipping on the stairs was the first thing that came to mind when I thought about him (which is about as unnotable as it gets). I guess Carter or Bush Sr. would have been a better choice.

  1. A President can't be unremarkable post-WWI when the US was a global superpower
  2. Calvin Coolidge is one of our greatest presidents and probably the closest we've had to the ideal president our Founders had in mind since Washington

i think william henry harrison is one of the most remarkable presidents because he is "babby's first presidential trivia"

if we are talking strictly accomplishments then dying in 30 days is more notable than some of the presidents in the poll

Coolidge had a couple interesting milestones during his presidency, one of which will be the subject of a topic on the anniversary of his inauguration!

Coolidge was also a genius and translated Dante's Inferno as a birthday gift to his wife (badass).

Yeah, I specifically avoided WHH because dying in a month is hilarious and noteworthy in and of itself.

Zachary Taylor also died in office, but he took a year to do it so nobody cares.

Six months ago I ran the poll as to which was most obscure, and instead of Taft and Ford on your list, I had Arthur and Coolidge. The overwhelming consensus was that it was either Pierce or Arthur.

But even though I didn't include any modern Presidents, give it 100 years or so, once everyone who lived through their administrations is long dead, I could see Ford and Carter being worthy of being on this list.

I think of it down to Tyler, Taylor, Fillmore, and Ben Harrison.

Tyler I remember for having a living grandchild, and having a similar last name to the other Whig.

Taylor I remember as being one of the two Whigs, and also dying in a relatively short timeframe (a la Will Harrison).

Fillmore has accrued a reputation for unremarkability, and being named "Millard Fillmore".

Harrision I struggle to think of anything about him other than being the first to have his voice recorded, and supposedly having a "Sugar & Ice Personality". He was another one related to a fellow President, I guess.

William Henry Harrison was also one of the top military leaders of his time before running for office, so I would exclude him for that reason as well. I would say Benjamin Harrison. Not even sure of anything that he did as President.

idk he's always stuck out to me as basically standing to the side and letting Wall Street speculation go increasingly out of control in the 1920s. That it blew up on Hoover - who was basically a continuation on his policies, being Coolidge's Secretary of Commerce - and not him comes largely down to his not seeking a second term in 1928.

Voted Pierce but on reevaluation, Benjamin Harrison may be the better pick.

Benjamin Harrison is also the guy who broke up Cleveland's two terms, so there's that.
