WASHINGTON President Joe Biden said Tuesday that he would not eliminate $50,000 in student debt, shooting down a proposal introduced by prominent Democrats earlier this month, but that he is open to some level of loan forgiveness.
"I will not make that happen," Biden said at a CNN town hall, his first event outside of Washington since taking office, in response to an audience member calling on him to commit to canceling at least $50,000 in debt.

Well case closed! If you owe more than 10k (also a longshot cuz "gubment, le deficit, etc") in loans by October, well, better start reaching in the ye old wallet again.

He delayed loans again and can still do loan forgiveness, I dont see how hes lied when he never said hed do $50k.

So fun history fact. The romans would regularly use debt abolition when they wound up in debt spirals that couldn't be stopped. Naturally, the aristocracy didn't like that, as it was their money owed that was getting nullified.

So caesar takes an absolutely massive loan from the aristocracy in Italy under the pretense of ending their civil war, then goes to speak the people about debt abolition, explaining; "Hey, I think it's a great idea, but I would benefit more than anyone because I have the largest amount of debt"(true following the loan he took out ).

People saw the wealthiest citizen had the most to gain and soured on the idea, even though debt abolition would have definitely been to the benefit of the majority of the people involved.

Basically, that report is the same shit, and 2000+ years later we are still falling for the same exact tactics. Eyyyyyyy.

Actually that was technically a campaign promise to bypass Congressional vote to include immediate 10k debt forgiveness along with stimulus checks in his COVID Relief plan, which hasn't happened. Doesn't matter when or how, a lie is a lie.

Simple solution = don't raise people's expectations regarding handouts if you can't get it done fast enough...although that's also the easiest way to lose in politics.
