Lol Texas

I'm in MN and the temperature hasn't been above 0 degrees in over a week. Southern states act so dramatic about the slightest hint of winter.

I lived up in North Dakota during the winter with a **** Nissan Sentra, it's worse down here because of the wet ice/snow and cities aren't designed for this weather, quit trying to act cute

1) We are not used to the cold weather- Last weekend it was 70-80 degrees in some parts and now it's facing single digits in some places. Up in MN, you get acclimated to colder temperatures because they never change.

2) The Snow here is wet and icy so driving on it is near impossible

3) The infrastructure here isn't built around weather like this

Dude, it is currently -10 degrees where I'm at and it's gonna get down to -20 degrees overnight. You never really acclimate to that lol. You just can't be exposed to cold like that. You're gonna get frostbit.

We get wet and icy snow up here among many other types. I've driven in blizzards all of my life. The snow isn't worse. You guys just suck at driving in that weather. Drive in it all your life and you'll get the feel for snow and ice on the road and when to hit the brakes or gas and not lose control of your vehicle. Seriously just brake early and brake often.

And yeah we definitely have tons of snowplows at the ready and everyone has a snowblower and/or a bunch of snow shovels. I always keep a snow shovel in my car during the winter in case I get stuck.

Snow really isn't that bad. Stop being so dramatic. We just went over this with covid. Clearing super market shelves over this stuff is kind of stupid. So many people hoard like they won't see daylight for a couple months.

All the snow you get could also be entirely melted in a week or so. Snow up here tends to stick around for a while.

Well considering that texas weather gets this way once in a blue moon, how do you expect people to get experience in driving in this kind of weather?

The fact that you know people dont know how to drive in this weather is exactly why some places are being closed for the weather change.

What? Have you been to MN? People here learn to embrace the weather, because other wise you go crazy with seasonal depression. I play in a winter disc golf league and have played disc golf many times in full on blizzards and below zero weather. There's tons of people in my neighborhood who still go for their daily walks in the freezing and snowy weather.

You're maybe going to have a week of snow. It isn't reasonable for everyone to clear the store shelves over this.

I live in MN - an inch of snow in texas is more damaging than a foot in MN. The state spends millions annually on plows, salt, treatments, etc. to make the roads usable again. It's really quite impressive.

Exactly why we suck at it. We haven't done it all our lives cause we dont live in that kind of environment. Texas doesnt have a bunch of snow plows at the ready cause it would be pointless to have them since we dont get snow except on super rare occasions. No one buys snow shovels becaus ewe dont get snow.

This is dangerous and not being over dramatic because we don't have the experience of snow and ice. So obviously it is gonna be more dangerous for us.

You guys act like snow removal equipment is a save all to this. Often times that equipment can't keep up with the weather. People still need to deal with this stuff. Extreme snow storms can still take many days or even a week or two for snow removal to catch up.

This topic started with a tweet showing off the hoarding people are up to over this. It is ridiculous. No reason to hoard like that.

In North Dakota, I got acclimated to sub zero weather just fine. In fact, when the temperatures would get in the teens finally people would let their windows down and it would cause them to shatter to something. Going from 80 degrees to 20 degrees in a week span is a completely different story dude.

Like I said before, I drove a Nissan Sentra in Minnesota (Moorhead, Minneapolis, Duluth) and North Dakota during storm conditions and was fine. The snow isn't as icy and wet and it's flat af up there. Down here, I have 4wd F-150 and know it is futile to drive when it snows down here because the snow here is icy & sleet and back in TN it was much more hilly than Minnesota by far. Plus, your cities are designed for long harsh winters while in Houston, Texas they care more about a tropical hurricane hitting them then some random once in a year 30 year winter storm.

what, you dont like people blaring their horns at you for crawling down the frozen street because they want to treat it like a normal day?

my favorite part is watching jackasses speed past, hit some ice, and spin out. when i was a kid there was this one street where i'd go with some friends each time the snow fell just to watch the jackasses spin out around a gentle curve they insisted on taking to fast.

It really is weird how elitist people who live in places like Minnesota can get when it comes to winter.

I say this as someone who lives even farther north than that. I can absolutely understand Texas isn't equipped to handle what's happening and there's no reason to act like they should be and mock them for not.
