Case three was a bit unfair from a character perspective but I solved it a few bears before it fell into my lap

Haha. 1-3 was fun for me because it was the only one that confused me from the first game. Maybe I am ranking these from a solving perspective instead of characters in my head.

2-2 > 2-1 > 2-3 so far. First impressions

2-3 is difficult to talk about until the game is beaten.

1-3 is generally considered the franchises worst because....it's so easy to solve <_<;

Almost every facet of DR is polarizing. There are many characters who will appear at the bottom and top of people's lists, literally either #1 or last place in some cases. Cases tend to be more consistent, though not always.

Honestly, what makes 1-3 so bad for me is just how GOOFY it is. Like, obviously the whole conceit of the franchise is goofy, but at least there's a certain degree of things being grounded in reality across 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 1-5, and 1-6. 1-3 just decides "let's throw in random Gundams (no relation) for no reason, along with a weird subplot of Hifumi and Taka fighting over a computer waifu/husbando".

Well I only say that because the other cases in DR I figured out pretty well so if it is known as the easiest it seems more likely I was tired than anything else.

2's cast is far better than 1's though.

1-2 was the only case in the first game I didn't completely solve before the trial. Really thought that one was Byakuya.

Meanwhile, 2-3 is the only case in the second game I even got the culprit right before the trial.

I can't fault anyone for not getting 1-2 before the trial, since there's a good chance Mondo gets away with it if he keeps his mouth shut. It depends on how much everyone would be willing to trust Byakuya after that stunt he pulled.

Also on chapter 4 and since everyone loves predix I think the traitor has to be either Sonia or Chiaki. The way Kazuichi goes on about not trusting us but trusting those two seems to be some dramatic irony.

Also I haven't mentioned it but having a robot as part of the team is amazing. Would be surprised if he lived for long though.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: DR2's individual cast members are more interesting (whether in a good or bad way), but DR1's cast feels more cohesive as a unit, and their interpersonal relationships feel more important.

Also, other than 2's characters being better, they're integrated better with the trials as they actually try to figure out what's going on (with mixed results).

2-5 is my favorite murder mystery in any video game. Nagito is the GOAT.

Another thing that I love about 2-5 is that it actually made use of Dangan Ronpa's Ultimate Talent shtick. It actually surprisingly rarely come to use.

All of DR2's killers (except Chiaki I guess) made use of their talent in one way or another.

Case 1: Teruteru used a portable stove for light and an iron skewer as the weapon, both of which he had access to because he was the cook
Case 2: Peko used her sword as part of her escape
Case 3: Mikan disguised the time of death and gave an unreliable autopsy
Case 4: Gundham used the Four Darks Devas of Destruction to push Nekomaru's sleep button
Case 5: Nagito's luck targeted the traitor

2-5 and 2-6 single handily blew everything from DR1 out of the water for me and instantly made me love the series haha. Like I was enjoying it up to that point for sure but yeah. Actually surprised you haven't played these games cause they seem right up your alley!

2-5 is the best case from DR2, but it's not better than 1-4.
