Yes.

The shitty thing is we got a new unit installed over the summertime because the old one was on the fritz and we decided it was old enough anyway.

I would lower the heat a little but with cats you're supposed to keep the temperature at a certain level, also honestly it's just the layout of this damned house like most of the heat goes upstairs but no one lives there it's just empty -_-

I've read that closing the vents just causes damage to the central heating system.

Get solar panels.
Have looked into that but it's not really a feasible option imo - it takes at least 10 years, if not 15, to really pay themselves off.

i've never heard this. i have a spare bedroom upstairs that i only use for storage unless i have a guest and i keep the vent in there closed. i also close vents in rooms that get too hot in the winter.

gas heat is where it's at. my gas bill is like $80-$90 at the worst in central Ohio for a 1580 sq ft home.

keeping your house at 78-80 in the winter just for the cat?! dude, thats insane. i keep my house at 68.

I'm afraid to see what mine will be after a 10 day polar vortex.

My last one was 180 which was well before these current temps.

This is also a drawback working from home since I could leave the temps lower if I were at the office outside this polar vortex.

Well it's a 2 month billing period and mine was about $800 for this time last year (so $400 a month). I wasn't working from home then either.

pets very important. i have to have the heater on for her. she's more happy when it's warmer (it gets cold in the house without it).

but the electric bills doesn't come close to the nightmare one is enduring. about 60$.

Single story, 3 BR, 1 Bath.

I use a heat pump and an electric heating coil to take over, heating coil has been dead since last year but I can't afford the $1500 its going to take to fix it so ive just been dealing with the higher costs in the summer. It's like around $130ish during summer.
