This, I still can't say is true. I heard that general mills bought & used her likeness for the brand...

Probably because it was a unnecessary change that nobody needed to make. And was kind of weird...

People like the stuff they normally get. Sucks when you can't find something you like because of rebranding, Happened to cologne I use to wear once...
I think it's pretty weird to make a fuss over something changing slightly when we're literally reading articles about it and you can ask a store employee about such things (not finding what you want).

I don't think many people are going to be asking store employees about the new Aunt Jemima. And it's possible the store employees won't know. They can basically take you to the syrup aisle... They may not even know that it's the new Aunt Jemima... Both the customer and employee make just think they're out...

well in that case, both the store employee and the customer are goon level intellect

idk any store I worked at, I recognized when something changed packaging. then some old person would be like 'where's my toothpaste!?!' and I'd be like 'YO I can help!'.

I disagree. The only place I've actually heard about this new packaging is a dying game website that barely anybody goes to. I haven't seen any like actual news about it. So, I don't think it's make someone a goon to have not heard about this...And not all store employees know about packaging changes. It's not actually that important, tbh. They just put it when the scanner says to. They probably see new versions of common items all the time. To them, it just may look like a new syrup trying to rip off Aunt Jemima... Because it does kind of look like a rip off of Aunt Jemima... As for the customer, it probably would just look like they're out of Aunt Jemima...

And even people who are looking for the generic, won't buy this; instead they'll buy the real generic store brand (such as that "Dr. Flave") which is sitting on the shelf right next to this -- because it's half the price. ^.~

I'm really surprised by you in this topic. This is disingenuous. People found her offensive because she started as a racist "Mammy" stereotype that just carried in through branding. Using a racial stereotype isn't okay just because you're using it as a brand. It's fine if you weren't offended by it as a black person but a lot of people found it in poor taste and discriminatory.

I think it's a non-issue that really shouldn't have even been brought up... And I think it was very few people altogether that had an issue with it. Most people didn't make the connection of Aunt Jemima being connected the the roots of the word Aunt. And I don't know about everyone involved, but I've seen more white people (in my own personal experience) who have had more problems with this than black people. My family (who are mostly black) also thought the change was weird and unnecessary...

That's the thing, though. The racist part seemed to be the name. If they wanna play that game, then the branding isn't the issue. It's the word. But we still use that word. Aunt had racial roots, but we still use the word. So, i don't see it as a problem when used with branding. If Aunt Jemima was white, it apparently wouldn't have been a problem. And if black Jemima was Mrs. Jemima instead, it probably still wouldn't have been a problem. It's just dumb. nobody was claiming it was racist until one dumb fuck said something about it. You don't fight racism by making a non-issue a racist issue. That's just brings in more racism... Aunt Jemima wasn't an issue. Then somebody decided to make it a racist issue. Without that person, nobody would have even cared. Or would have thought racism...

The racist part was the depiction of the mammy. But not every black woman on a product is a mammy. I never saw Aunt Jemima like many. Barely anyone did. Just a black lady who was somebody's aunt... That being said, the word Aunt was part of the problem. It's what caused that one person to see her as a mammy, apparently. Plus, the word aunt and uncle were brought up when talking about Uncle Ben, which is another stupid change...

It is racist

It's almost as bad as teaching children to see color as a difference

If the product changes, and the representative image on the product is no longer a racist caricature, nothing is gained by bringing up a past of racial hatred except teaching a newer generation about this hatred and thus allowing some of them to be that way

Eventually, you won't be able to use black people on products because no matter how you use them, people will just assume racism, even if it's not...

And you don't see any common denominator between those three brands? Like the time periods they were created? You're being really disingenuous in this topic. There's nothing wrong with using black people in advertising and you know that. There are problems with using racial stereotypes from bygone eras as the mascot of your brand.

I don't agree with this. Lots of brands have black models with no issues. These racial issues happen with every minority because it's usually white people spearheading the advertising campaigns and they don't do enough research. You see it a lot with Asian models being made to be stereotypical as well.
