I don't think anybody's saying that

But this is a special case where it's not that she wasn't aware her actions were racist or anything. She was keenly aware, and keenly aware of the struggles people go through because of racism, and then chose to weaponize that against somebody.

It doesn't feel like these awareness sessions are going to do much for somebody like her because it's teaching her what she already clearly knew.

Right? People who get in prison also lose their jobs and become social pariahs even more- it's enforced by federal law that they have shittier lives after. She wanted this dude to be scared for his life or die, basically threatening to kill him? I think people usually get punished for that.

The prosecutor, Joan Illuzzi-Orbon, said Ms. Cooper had participated in five therapy sessions that focused on how racial identities shape peoples lives. Her therapist had reported that the sessions were a moving experience and that Ms. Cooper learned a lot, Ms. Illuzzi-Orbon said.

Ms. Cooper had been offered the program, part of an alternative solution that falls under the rubric of restorative justice, partially based on her lack of criminal background, Ms. Illuzzi-Orbon said. Restorative justice, an alternative to traditional prosecution, looks at the harm done and implements a process for reconciliation among the parties involved, including the offender, the victim and the community.

The victim himself said he thinks society has punished her enough.

Theres no need to continue, this is the way it should be.

He says the outrage and attention should be focused on victims of the justice system like those disenfranchised by DC not having statehood.

Yes, the justice system is fucking broken. We dont fix it by using it against other people for no positive benefit.

Restorative justice is far better than punitive, and in particular the american prison system is a cruelty very few within it actually deserve. Whether the methods used on her were effective is one thing, but I agree with the courts she didn't need punitive justice, and I think it is really cynical to assume the classes she took did nothing for her. Ignorance is real, and empathy is difficult for many people without exposure and context.

Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again, Trump said in the statement released by his PAC.

"McConnell's dedication to business as usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality, has rapidly driven him from Majority Leader to Minority Leader, and it will only get worse."

"McConnell did nothing, and will never do what needs to be done in order to secure a fair and just electoral system into the future. He doesn't have what it takes, never did, and never will."

"He is destroying the Republican side of the Senate, and in so doing, seriously hurting our Country.

I mean, this is all hypothetical, no way are there the votes in the Senate GOP to kick McConnell from Minority Leader.

Majority/Minority Leaders are inventions of the Senate themselves. Unlike Speaker, the only constitutionally created positions within the Senate are President of the Senate (the VP) and President pro tempore.

Consequently, while I'm not sure of the exact Senate rules here, the Senate could easily make it a rule if they wished if no such rule were explicitly written. Regardless, I suspect it is the case they must be a serving Senator.

Gingrich deserves a mention here because he's often overlooked for being one of, if not the, primary driver in Congress becoming as hyper-polarized as it now is.

Seriously, there's a story there though I'm not sure I'm in the mood to expound on it right now. Though he was one of the trailblazers in shattering the "norms" for political gain. The same way it does now. The Speaker hardly ever actually presides over the House - usually, only on ceremonial occasions like SOTU, the counting of the electoral votes, etc.
