Always. I did before working in the food industry, then worked in the food industry for 5+ years. If I can afford takeout, delivery, pickup of any sort, I can afford to tip 15%-20%. Working in the industry is generally ass, and the wages are ass. It's rare that I have food so awful that I just take my business elsewhere. Tips shouldn't be based upon how much a server licks your asshole.

Although it'd be nice if tipping was just done away with, restaurants paid workers properly, and menu prices were just higher. People have come to expect restaurant food very cheap when the bottom line is always rising for restaurants.

The only time I've ever tipped was when i went to Poland. It's not something that's common place for me. The delivery driver gets paid National Minimum Wage over here at least so tips are just a bonus. Unless they are doing something like Uber Eats I guess (not sure about this). I also believe a tip should be earned and not expected.

Pretty harsh opinion. Why is this? I've never tipped for take-out, but also I've only gotten take-out one and it was a place that I don't usually tip because you order at the counter and grab your food from the counter.

If I'm at a coffee place with a tip jar, I do. It's only like, 25 cents.

If it was available at fast food, I would. Do I tip the cooks? Yes, because a majority of kitchens split tips in some capacity, even if the majority of tips are paid out to servers.

When I worked at McDonald's, we were told not to accept tips. There was a ridiculously nice First Nations guy that came through drive through almost every morning, and usually palmed me a fiver. He'd say "you should be the manager here" since I always kept the drive-thru flowing.

I mean, we're all supporting broken systems in some way, so I see the other point of view as well. I was just in it for so long I feel pretty sympathetic.

It really depends. Some places are cool and bring stuff to your car or offer you some drinks to go. If I feel theyre giving good service Ill give them a couple bucks. If Im just picking up an order from a counter Im probably not gonna tip though.

Dine-in? Yes
Delivery? Absolutely
Take-out? Fuck No!

And screw that company...I think it's "Square"... that installs those electronic payment screens where it makes you specifically choose to not tip as the person at the counter is watching you, I read articles on that and they intentionally did that to try and guilt people into it by making it awkward. Makes me reconsider going to restaurants with that in the future.

Take-out. Do you mean delivery or actual going to pick something up? If it's the later I change my mind. It's "no". I never do. I only tip on dine-in and delivery. This question is very poorly worded as "Take-out" and "Cary-out" are not the same thing.

Not at all surprising coming from TC who has a long history if crappy questions like this.

I dunno, in my many years, I encountered people daily having no shame in asking "how do I tip 0$"? Guess what dumbass, you should've figured out how to do that by now.

If you're feeling awkward that's on you.

idk I had a guy come into the Ramen Bar I ran literally almost every night. We'd have his order hot and ready, with the utensils he preferred in like, 7 minutes. Never got a cent from him. I'm sure it was just the way he was raised, but I find most people's thought processes on these things pretty lacking.

It doesnt really make sense to tip when you are just picking up your food. Being guilted into tipping someone is the reason I NEVER get delivery and if the cashiers are bitchy about not being tipped then I try avoiding eating there because eating out is already expensive as it is.

Despite this I still have been tipping a single dollar for take-out.

It's a rough time for people in the service industry. I say *if* you can afford to tip, whether it's delivery or takeout, do it. I'm officially out of money since I lost both of my jobs to the pandemic, but I still consider a 20% tip part of the cost of a meal.

Again - that's a big *if*. It's a rough time for people in other industries, too. But if you have to ask the question, "should I tip right now?", the answer is yes.

Gdask and Sopot are nice. I never went to Gdynia that is part of the tricity but I enjoyed it a lot. It helped I lived like a king due to English currency transfer rates at the time. Really cheap to travel between places even on train. They are also very accommodating when it comes to English speakers. I loved most bars are underground too. I really enjoyed this Irish bar that was built in a old train tunnel. Piwnica was it's name. On the surface it looked like a public toilet however you went down underground and had a bar. All table service in Poland too from where I went.

A take-out or takeout (U.S., Canada, & the Philippines); carry-out or to-go (Scotland and some dialects in the U.S. & Canada)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take-out

Judg, why you gotta be so mean these days? Youre the only one confusing take out and delivery.

Anyways, @Judgmenl whats the difference between your usage of take-out and carry-out?

I always believed to-go (less fancy of a phrase) = take-out (a bit classier) = carry-out (even a bit classier) =/= delivery (where they deliver to your home)

Not the task of the consumer. You pay the price as set by the seller. That they are underpaying their staff and or undercharging you, is for them to figure out, not the consumer.

Never, and it'd be fucking stupid to tip for take-out. Even if you're getting takeout from a traditional restaurant -- which might involve waiters/waitresses spending a minute or two helping you -- it's ridiculous, and that's not even getting into places where workers *are* paid the minimum wage. And for anybody who advocates this nonsense, let me ask you something: Do you also tip the clerks at stores who ring up your order? It's not like they're making much money either, so why aren't you doing it for them as well?

If you're able to tip right now and you aren't tipping for takeout then you really need to reevaluate. Restaurants are hurting bad and the employees can't be making anything without people tipping when they pickup.

My tipping has increased since the pandemic started because I realize it can make a difference for the people working in the food industry. Seems disgusting if you aren't.

Nope, and no. I never tip and I hate the tipping system in place. Its an unpopular opinion here, but I also have a right to say no, im not giving you extra money. I dont need to give you extra money and its not required that I give you extra money. You have to realize the meaning behind it to fully understand it as well. It sucks that when you have a company that cant pay their employees well and they have to count on the tipping system then something is obviously wrong there. But you choose you work there. No one is forcing you in that position and no one owes you that extra dollar so don't have a pity fit in other words if someone doesn't tip.

I don't tip on takeout. I'm extremely cheap when it comes to buying food because I think it's a waste of money because it isn't "fun" and you can't keep it (well... you could, I guess, but that would be fucking disgusting and pointless). I value "stuff" over experiences. I understand people tipping on takeout during the pandemic, because they wanna help out the business (my dad has been giving like 20% tips during covid for takeout, apparently, for that reason).

I'll tip if I am having a sitdown meal, based on the service I receive. I won't give nothing if it sucks though, I'll give 2 cents just so they know they fucked up and it's not me being a cheapskate. If I am really happy, I will give 20% or round up to the next highest round dollar amount above 20%. I never, ever do delivery. I'd feel guilty not tipping the driver, so I always did in the past, and that just seems like a waste of money when I am able bodied and can just drive 5 minutes to pickup my own food. I just don't have a valid excuse to order delivery. When I have a kid, maybe I will just want the ease because I will be fucking worn down all the time, but for now that's not the case.

Most countries don't tip, and find it kind of insane that Americans do. If everyone else has seemingly figured out how to keep food industry employees alive without resorting to what is effectively extortion, there's no real reason why the US couldn't solve this problem either.

The real Catch-22 is that, because tipping IS a thing, employers can deliberately pay employees less because they know people are going to tip to offset the difference. It's really only cultural expectations for tipping that make tipping necessary in the first place.
