I remember reading something that Whedon really wanted Vision to have a penis in Age of Ultron. When the concept artists drew up different visuals for him, he realized that it was a bad idea and left vision penisless.

I've been assuming for a while now that they're basically adapting at least part of this storyline:

http://www.supermegamonkey.net/chronocomic/entries/west_coast_avengers_42-45.shtml

The show as a whole actually feels like they took 3-4 of the major Scarlet Witch storylines from the comics and sort of mashed them together. Bits from the original Vision and the Scarlet Witch miniseries, the VisionQuest and Wanda going crazy storylines, the original retcon of her origins (which tied her to chaos magic, Cthon, and the Darkhold), and with the MCU version of Monica Rambeau/Captain Marvel/Photon/Pulsar/Spectrum/etc (girl's had a lot of code names)'s origin story thrown in for good measure.

As mind-blowing as the show may seem to people who've never read the comics, there doesn't actually seem to be all that many new ideas in it.

Great episode. There were just a few minor changes that I'm gonna nitpick about.

First, I think I'm just not a fan of spoken spells in a world built around just kind of hand waving things around.

Secondly, I thought Wanda and Pietro were buried in the rubble, unable to dig free because it'd shift the bomb and rescue crews couldn't safely reach them for days. Instead, they were simply to afraid to leave because it was beeping.

Last, I guess I just assumed the Hydra mindstone experiments were more extensive and tortuous. She literally just poked it and that was it. Like, the whole thing took 10 seconds. I kind of thought she had been tested on for months to the point of breaking. Though, this was all just an assumption on my part.

they still could have been, we only saw the first thing. undoubtedly hydra is going to want to do more experiments on her since she was the only person to come into contact with it and not die.

and I guess her brother, they didn't explain that.

Oh, I'm not saying it can't be good, or that they can't handle things in interesting or unexpected ways. More just the fact that it feels like all the various puzzle pieces are things they took right out of the comics rather than anything they specifically came up with originally for the show.

It's why people have been predicting the whole Agnes = Agatha thing almost from the beginning, and why people are still wondering whether or not Mephisto might wind up being involved in some way at some point. Because those are elements of her story that were written 30+ years ago.

If anything, trying to predict/decipher which of the original stories they're drawing ideas from can be kind of interesting in its own right, especially when it allows you to predict what might happen next (or fools you into thinking you know what comes next, only to have them zig when you expected them to zag).

Because the underlying theme of the show seems to involve the concept of grief and working through it, I tend to suspect the show ends with the Vision permanently dead and never coming back rather than having him come back as a lesser thing or completely restored, and Wanda finally having to come to term with that and saying "goodbye" to him... which then segues into Wanda's appearance in Doctor Strange. But I could be wrong.

Wrong.

Bruce: "Your mind is made up of a complex construct of overlays. J.A.R.V.I.S., Ultron, Tony, me, the Stone. All of them mixed together. All of them learning from one another."

Wanda: "You're saying Vision isn't just the stone?"

Bruce: "I'm saying that if we take out the stone, there's still a whole lot of Vision left. Perhaps the best parts."

I am reminded of this anime I watched once back in college, as I see comments like this regarding this show. What was it...? *Goes digging*

Magical Shopping Arcade: Abenobashi. Basically the main kids are dimension hopping, but really it's the boy trying to escape the reality and grief about his grandfather, and so hijinks ensue every episode with any number of new themes until the main protagonist is left to face reality at last.

I totally had to re-acquire my Anime List details, after so very long, to find that since none of my search engines were helping me. Now to forget about that site again...

Though the episode was really well done, the bulk of it was telling us what we already knew or could easily guess, retconning Wanda's backstory, or giving really simple answers to the various mysteries brought up by the show. And seems to set up the last episode to be a big punch up.

I think people who were expecting something a lot "meatier" were always going to be disappointed.

Idk if those were the reasons behind the review cause lol I'm not gonna read that shit, but those are my guesses.

The impression I get is that she was attracted to the magic and is trying to steal it somehow. But the mechanics of that are not super clear.

Seems like she wants to somehow get power on the same level as Wanda's but Wanda doesn't even seem to understand her powers fully.

It seems Wanda's powers are that powerful because the mind stone literally amplified her innate abilities, which as we saw, were already powers Wanda never fully grasped when she was young. She stopped that bomb from blowing up for 2 days and never even realised it. When she was grieving it may have subconsciously unleashed that power to protect herself. That's just how it seems from Episode 8.

I liked the episode! Seeing some of the things they talked about in Age of Ultron is kinda weird because it seemed much more bleak when it was told. Seeing it unfold was kinda... eh? The new scenes that wouldn't fit in the movies of Wanda and Vision bonding were great!

And the episode answered questions I had about the kids somehow forming out of thin air. LAW OF EQUIVALENT EXCHANGE, WANDA!

I don't read comics though, so my only experience with Wanda before the MCU was when she was a goth chick in X-Men Evolution. And I had no clue what she did in that show except give people bad luck.

You're confused. "The fans" are the ones who hate literally everything, ever, because it isn't enough like the comics. And then if they make a film that is exactly like the comics in every possible way, they'll complain because it didn't do anything new.

"The fans" thrive on hate. Whether you're talking comic books or adaptations of novels, cartoons, video games, or pretty much any property, the most hardcore fans of the original thing are going to be the loudest voices screaming how much the new thing sucks.

I would argue that any content that doesn't spend time recapping previous episodes or doesn't have cuts to commercials, and episodes can be watched in succession is a show made to be binged.

In a way, WandaVision does not meet any of those criteria if you factor in it has it's own commercial breaks. The whole premise of the show alludes to a time before binge watching was a thing, and generally follows that traditional format.

not to mention that netflix series that are also specifically designed to be binged, also do episode recaps.
