Can artifacts be equipped at anytime? I've liked tactical for baiting them to kill things and popping that so their creature dies instead.
normal 'equip' effects (like "equip 2") have the secret rule of being cast at times that sorcery spells can (i.e. slow)

but if there's some any other effect phrased like "2: attach this to target creature", then that can be done at any time an ability can normally be done- essentially at any time/"instant speed"

i can't explain it better than that right now :P

The main problem with your deck is that it lacks focus. While some of the cards like to work with Yorion many either don't care or really don't want to be targeted by him. You have multiple ways of bringing things back from the graveyard, but Ugin exiles cards. Things like that make it so that often these very powerful and cool cards are totally at odds with what the rest of your deck is doing. What I see at the core of your deck is a black and white life gain synergy deck, so you may want to check out this article: https://mtgazone.com/budget-orzhov-clerics-deck-guide/

Been playing mono white aggro in Standard lately.

For a lot of reasons it irritates me that this deck is good, but it has been working out pretty well.

I will say I seriously underestimated the potential of Halvar, God of Battle. Maybe it's because most of my experience in this standard meta is playing decks with removal and counterspells, but in creature vs creature matchups this thing is an absolute house.

The funny thing is that there are several varieties of MWA that you can run. It's the best archetype in the format not just for being good but being hard to even sideboard against.

I tried one the other day and felt helpless against most decks, but I'm willing to chalk that up to user error because mono white aggro has never made sense to me.

Gruul aggro has been fun for me ever since I hit platinum in draft. Can't get more than 3 wins against better drafters and players.

For the record I'm still convinced Rogues is the strongest deck in the current standard format.

Most recent tournament results certainly do not support that claim.

Also other comment: I hadn't been playing ranked earlier in the season, but I am now and I'm surprised how often I've encountered Tibalt's Trickery even in Diamond.

I have to imagine aggro is the best matchup for the deck, and even in this case it's managed to be embarassingly bad. They've actually managed to hit something with Tibalt's Trickery in 4 out of 5 games I've played so far, but they still lost 2 of those 4. Neither turn 2 Kiora Bests the Sea God nor Turn 3 Dream Trawler is good enough, apparently. (To be clear those were different games. Getting those 2 out in the same game would probably be enough against anything)

It's been a while, but i think diamond is the first rank that you actually have to have a positive winrate to climb out of

Iirc, Everything before it gives 2 points for a win and takes 1 point for a loss

So it would make sense to see a lot of funny decks there

Platinum is 1 and 1. Technically you don't need a positive win rate in either to move up, just well-timed losses. Regardless, anyone playing a Trickery deck trying to rank up is wasting their time.

i'm not too resistant to change, although i'd prefer if there were at least some "walled garden" formats that only allowed specifically MtG-universe cards.

the idea of wizards ever losing the rights to reprint a format staple is one of the reasons "The Rabiah Scale" even exists

We may occasionally do associated Secret Lair products related to the main release, like the Secret Lair Godzilla lands when Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths came out. There will also be the occasional standalone product like The Walking Dead, but the intention is to typically make Universes Beyond as available as any other Magic product.

That's not that bad. The problem with the walking dead wasn't that it was the walking dead, it's that they were selling singles. I'm cool with full on themed magic products

I really dont like expanding into other IPs like this, I dont necessarily feel the need to have all my interests overlap in every way. Im not gonna throw a fit about it the way some people probably will, but this all gets a resounding bleh from me.

Im at least glad these will all be supplemental products and not added to Standard/Modern/Pioneer/etc. But Im gonna get extreme whiplash every time I have to play against Legolas in Legacy elves or whatever.

I suspect the universes beyond stuff will be fine, since it's not super limited like secret lairs walking dead. I doubt I'll buy any though. Time Spiral Remastered, so far, is not exciting to me. It might be fun to draft, but who is physically getting together to draft right now? If this set was going to standard it would be interesting for the timeshifted cards, but then the rest of the cards would be woefully underpowered thanks to the last few years of the game's development. As is, it's really just dumping cards into modern to keep the price of some staples in check.

It started with just silver boarder promo cards for Transformers or whatever, then within the last ~year we went from those Godzilla skinned cards to the Walking Dead secret lair to the annoucement of full on Warhammer commander decks. Its moving so fast.

Aw yes. Don't know how much anyone else here cares about competitive constructed but I qualified for day 2 of the Mythic qualifier tournament on MTG Arena that was today.

Went 5-0 in matches and 10-1 in games vs aggro decks. (3 mono white, 1 mono red, and 1 Naya combo which I guess you could argue isn't an aggro deck but whatever.) So eat your heart out everyone who says rogues can't keep up with aggressive decks. Ended at 7-1 with my only loss being to a 60-card Sultai Ultimatum deck, though I did make a pretty bad misplay in game 2 to lose the set.

Also had some new-ish sideboard pieces that I never really had time to test myself beforehand, but it managed to come in clutch during the real thing so that was nice.

Wasn't expecting to win a match on day 2 off of a last minute choke by my opponent but I guess I will take it? In fairness to my opponent, the choke was them bouncing my Lurrus with Brazen Borrower in response to a spell, and I'm guessing they thought the spell I cast was from my hand rather than it actually being that I had just used Lurrus's effect to cast from my grave, and this is an issue that's sometimes hard to tell what's going on with the MTGA client/interface. I'm not 100% sure it was a good play either way, but there are some hands I could potentially have had where the play would have made sense in that case. But whatever, we take those. Currently 2-0.

When I was playing mono white on ladder I generally preferred aggro matchups, but it felt fine vs control also. To be fair though, I played mainly against Sultai Yorion builds which probably fares worse than Esper Yorion. The matchups I feared the most were probably Rakdos, the mid/low tier Mono Black enchantment deck that just has an insanely good matchup here, and maybe Rogues, though that one feels about even to me.

I think Faceless Haven is quite good by the way, so I'd recommend that plus snow lands if you have access to that.

And I hate playing Rogues, I hate playing blue/black in general XD Sometimes it feels like I don't even get to play Magic when I play against them.

The Rakdos deck is pretty nasty too, especially when I don't get going with lots of creatures right away.

there are a ton of manlands and just lands with ridiculous abilities on them in standard right now

i know it probably hurts my winrate, but it's gotten to the point where i'm maindecking 3 field of ruin

i've been playing rakdos, so crawling barrens was really the one to force my hand- my main instant speed removal does nothing against it

getting a free way to deal with the eldraine castles and faceless haven is a side bonus

Oh my god I actually managed to go 7-2 in day 2 of the qualifier. Wasn't really even expecting to make day 2 but I am beyond excited right now.

Won in an incredibly janky way in the final game to. Was dead on board for sure next turn and was top-decking, and I topdeck Heartless Act which let's me send my own Thieves Guild Enforcer to the grave, bring it back with Lurrus, and get the last mill triggers to deck my opponent. Got incredibly lucky all-around in the final set but whatever. I guess I also got semi-poor luck with opening hands and had to mulligan twice in game 1 and once in game 3, so I'll take what I can get.

Man my sealed pool in the Strixhaven mythic qualifier today is absolutely nutty. We'll see if it's good enough for 7 wins, but this could easily be the best limited deck I have ever had in the format. Especially for sealed where decks tend to be slower, since if I survive to turn 6 or so I don't see how I lose unless my opponent has a Koma or something. (Even that I can answer, but I would need to have it immediately when it hits the field)

I was probably exaggerating a bit but just that I've got really good rares all in the same archetype with really good common/uncommon support in those same colors. The mana is quite greedy which is mainly how I've lost so far, but yeah. Currently 6-2 so we'll see what happens.

https://i.imgur.com/dSwSAuC.png

Good removal and card draw overall, and Burning Rune Demon will basically close out any game where the opponent isn't already in an overwhelming position. Also I've won like 4 games just by playing Blood on the Snow and Rise of the Dread Marn on the same turn.
