How the fuck is a email from the actual company email a phishing test? Unless they made it clearly suspicious(Asking for SS number, Lots of misspellings, strange formatting etc.) a 650$ holiday bonus isnt exactly way too good to be true territory.

Also I feel like any official material promising a raise or bonus should be considered legally binding. Pay the fuck up assholes.

If you wanna do this just make a Letter from the CEO and have a handful of wierd details/links instead of baiting them.

I would be immediately looking for a better job. This is a cruel and sick thing to do.

This only pushes the question further back: was the email address spoofed or not? Because if the article is to be believed, the email actually came from GoDaddy internally.

I assume the logic is a phiser can make their email look like it came from GoDaddy so there's no difference in sending it from a GoDaddy email.

Its in the video. If you watch it they show a screenshot and you can see the email there. Still a garbage thing to do to your employees. Especially during a pandemic and right after they told them they arent getting any bonuses this year.

You think scammers and hackers care if they're being cruel when they send their own phishing attempts like this? If people are willing to click an email from "[email protected]", then that means they are at risk of having their actual accounts compromised, and that is a common enough story. The pain of hearing you fell for your company's phishing email is nothing compared to hearing that you wear the source of a major data breach, or your bank account has been emptied, and these are common enough stories around the holidays. My company already had at least one instance of an employee who typed their login into a phishing site this holiday season.

If GoDaddy employees aren't making enough to survive the year, that's one thing, but it's not like 2020 has done anything to especially increase cost of living or hurt economic welfare for people who are still employed with a tech company. The people are hurting are the ones who lost their jobs.

This is unspeakably cruel. Making sure your agency isn't susceptible to phishing is important, yes, but the promise of a boon to finance to these low-wage employees around the holidays was heartless. Any other method could have been chosen. Any other means.

The people whose role it is to make sure the company is secure are going to be completely different people from the ones who are responsible for payroll and bonuses (and may not even be privy to whether there will be bonuses or not).
