Let melee die. It would actually force people to take a shower. Seriously, I've been to a seperate Ultimate and Melee gatherings and the melee people were so smelly I had to leave. I don't mean to meme, but it's one that's so real. The rape/abuse thing is an individual basis but the bad BO is literally everyone.

I checked out EVO for a couple hours one year, and maybe the venue was big enough to allow for better ventilation, but I didn't detect any BO from the Melee section or anywhere else. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it was much worse in smaller venues, and I generally agree that the "poor hygiene" stereotype is pretty damn embarrassing and should be worked on.

The one time I detected terrible BO at an event was during a small wrestling show (ROH), and it was putrid enough that I both wanted to leave and felt embarrassed with my own presence there.

I have detected bad BO at many different types of events and also not detected BO at those same kinds of events on different occasions, so if we want to cancel Melee for anecdotal reasons we should also cancel nearly every other kind of group gathering type event while we're at it.

A lot of Melee fans always say stuff like "If Nintendo would rerelease it exactly the same, we'd play it" and we all know that isn't true. Even if it was as exact as you can get, something in the porting process would be such a slight change, that Melee fans would complain as usual and not play it, because many of them have an established history of being unable to adapt. A large portion of Melee fans realized Ultimate was superior and they dropped Melee, and while the Melee community is shrinking fast, there are still a huge number of them that basically cried that they weren't able to adapt to Ultimate, and immediately went back to the one game they know. So a rerelease will just be the same thing again.

Say what you want about some of Nintendo's practices, but it's hard to have sympathy toward a community that pitiful.

I used to be friends with someone who tried to make it big in the Melee community(he did make a decent splash), and followed him to a decent amount of small tourneys. I never ran into any BO while at those tourneys. That was like 10 years ago though, so maybe the fan base is a lot worse with their hygiene now.

Let's be real, there were major QOL improvements, lots of good roster additions and solid single player content. And, not that Nintendo gets the credit for it, one of the best modding scenes ever.

Brawl was great for a lot of things, but the modding scene is something I didn't care for. It's basically just a way for them to turn Brawl into Melee with Project M.

Nintendo has a bad history with the handling of Smash tournaments, and has made some questionable-at-best business decisions lately. But the Melee mod thing? Meh. Its commercially benefitting from a mod that probably breaks the game license and requires illegal copies. As far as I understand it, Nintendo is just acting like any other company in that legal situation, its not really an oh Nintendo thing like the limited run mass market games or their initial opposition to Smash being at tournaments at all. This just seems like standard practice. Now you could absolutely say that this legal framework is wrong and Id probably agree, but this just seems like a normal decision under current rules to me.

The thing is, if the Melee community just folded into the regular Smash community like it should have long ago, none of this would have ever happened. It would also probably reduce toxicity because being this underground thing to the side of the main community is a breeding ground for that. So yeah, Nintendo have done some bad things but for this? Just let Melee die already.

Also, comparisons to real people are usually very dumb, but Melee really is the Trump of video games, huh.

im sure the melee community would love to stop playing melee if a real competitor existed. dealing with all the bullshit is hardly worth it. but there is no other game like melee. ultimate might seem similar at face value but if you're a serious competitive player it's worlds apart.

Nintendo put out a C/D on a custom joycon design that was being sold to help fund suicide prevention. The design was made after Etika, a huge streamer and a bigger Nintendo fan killed himself.

This is wrong though. Slippi, the 'mod', is similar to Game Genie, which was proven to be legal. It technically requires the game to be used, and doesn't change any of the games files. It would absolutely hold up in court if Nintendo wasn't a behemoth company that could throw millions at a lawsuit to ensure the other party would go bankrupt before a ruling happened.

Can confirm Smash fans smell bad. The only two midnight launches I have ever done were Smash U and Ultimate. Both times were miserable experiences.

I played project M and rivals of aether extensively. all the other smash clones were poor IMO. Slap city was okay but it wasnt made to be taken seriously, so..

There are other platform fighters that are fun like Rivals of Aether and Slap City, but to say they play like Melee only proves you dont know the game. Which is fine, its a super niche thing that most people dont give a shit about it. But what the players care about is the core gameplay and game feel, which has yet to be replicated. The game just feels like sex in your hands man

i like Ultimate too. i dont compete but its still a great game. PT and Roy are the most fun ive had playing Smash post-Melee

i maintain that Project M is the best large-scale one. A lot of creativity went into it. New stages, reworked movesets, splitting tag characters before Nintendo did, adding back Mewtwo and I think more characters.

It's actually not, because in today's law there's no such thing as a legally ripped ISO anymore because ripping anything is considered "circumventing technological measures that control access to protected work." DMCA law fucked emulation up pretty bad, legally.
