I wonder if that would have been more achievable if they were paid a living wage

oh well Im sure the collapse of thousands or even millions of households will only strengthen our economy and government

When it comes to just magically getting a job, they cant sometimes. Getting a job can be hard, especially when everyone needs them at the same time...

The amount of people ive seen complaioning about not being able to find a job yet are unwilling to apply for ones that either pay less than their old job or its a low skilled retail job is amazing, i mean id rather have a shitty job thats low skilled over not having a job because i feel im too good for it.

I feel like "I can't find a job that will pay enough for me to keep my house" or "I can't find a job that won't indefinitely put my career progression on hold" are reasonable enough qualifiers to just say "I can't find a job." And that's saying nothing about not wanting to inconvenience the people offering those jobs by committing to a position that they intend to leave as soon as something better opens up (to which end they probably wouldn't even get said jobs because they're overqualified).

What good is a job that cant help you pay the bills, though. Some people need a job that pays more than minimum wage. Not only that, but you still have to get the position. I mean, with the amount of businesses that shutdown, not only are tons of people out of jobs, but tons of old jobs dont even exist for people to apply for...

And, for that matter, even if an engineer hypothetically does work at Walmart to put food on the table in the absence of more suitable work, they're still very much justified in complaining about an economy that has driven them to such a professional downgrade.

Youre saying no income is better than some income ? You can still look for a job while being employed so any job is better than no job.

Some income is good. But at that point, they still need a better job. Which is why its still hard for them to find a suitable job. Which goes back to the original point of needing a job. Because at that point, the lack of a good job will still leave them homeless... Especially since its a time when everybody needs a job. And you may not be able to find one thats better. And while finding a second job might work, it depends on your bosses and your schedules... And they may rather take the other person who has more open time than the one who already has a full schedule... Also, while you do have some time to search for jobs, its much, much less...

Someone doesn't understand opportunity cost. If you spend all your time and energy at a job that doesn't pay the bills, that's less time and energy you have for looking for a job that does

Yeah. And it makes no sense. The "let billionaires hoard money" thing stagnates the economy at the best of times, but now that so many poorer people have less disposable income it's breaking everything. The only trick down effect is more poverty.

Your sample size of 20 is totally representative of how dangerous this shit is. Ignore the 9.3 million people in America who got it and the 235 thousand who died. And ignore the fact that cases are rapidly rising right now. Facts I don't like don't exist!

While I do have concerns the fact is that a lot of Americans simply don't have jobs right now because of the lockdowns. We need money to get the economy going again. We need a balance but the balance is well in the 'people need money right now' part.

The first is a consideration, but the second not so much. Otherwise many people will be forced to make hard career and life choices regardless because the economy is going to be in rough shape for some time afterward. The idea that everything is going to return to how it was after governors have locked down their states is fantasy, because shit is going to take years to return to where it was so any stimulus is going to be delaying the inevitable in some cases.

And just think how much opportunity people have when they're homeless. They have a free schedule to look for work and aren't tied down to one geographical region -_- While sometimes you get stuck doing something that's less than ideal or have to take a step back in life, you gotta do what you gotta do. You can't just holdout for forever and, if you try to, you'll wind up with employment gaps that are going to hurt you far worse than anything else.

It really sucks ass when this very country doesnt know how to take care of its own people very well... its also discouraging too. Aside from the whole onslaught of other problems too. High health care costs, costs of insulin, working to live and not living to work. Working in general to the grave until you die of pure exhaustion. I can also say the same about tipping too. I never tip and never understood the tipping culture here. I have my own needs too with money in a country that is hell bent on money. Cash is king here, thats for certain.

Youd probably have much less time now that you have to take care of your family full time. If you had a place to live, its not so bad leaving you kids home while youre out. Now you have to bring them with you everywhere you go. Which can make it harder, or even impossible, to get a job...

OhhhJa posted...

At my job, many people have gotten sick. Same for the base. And we usually try to stick to ourselves. And the base is around 14,000 people or so. Many have been sick and quarantined. And even then, it still gets around sometimes. While I havent personally heard of any death from just this, I wouldnt be surprised. And I can even mention long term effects yet. PT test havent started back up. But there might be some long term effect by then...

Theres also people with at risk family member that they take care of. Like taking care of older family members (Like older parents), for example...

Actually, its pretty common. Though, its normally if youve gotten into one. I know people when theyve had a car accident. And especially if they were younger when they had their first accident, it was scary. Many of them didnt want to even drive again. Its a scary thing. And usually, everybody is alive and well, even if a little shaken up. Most eventually do. Maybe a few continue to get rides, or take public transport, though... In this case, you have people getting so sick that some of said it felt like they were dying. Just think about how that person probably felt, and how that family probably felt. It probably feels horrible. Not to mention, we still dont know the long term effects. Like how this will possibly affect them in the long run. Didnt they already say some people would still have problems with their lungs afterwards. Thats pretty scary on its own... Especially since people can pass it unknowingly...
