They asked me if I wanted 2 monitors and I said no. "Alt+tab" is fine for dealing with a software and Excel.

I'm cool if you're using different programs, but juggling Excel and stuff isn't really that hard...

Dual monitors is the best work setup. Hell I'd campaign for a third monitor if they'd buy me one.

As for the standing desk, I'd just come right back with a doctor's note.

They'll need a doctor's note who need HR's approval first and then if accepted HR will then tell me to get it done and then I will toss the responsibility to one of my Help Desk guys.

Seems like a dick move. Standing desks are literally great for your health. It's not a razer mouse or a second monitor (I mean another monitor would be a reasonable request imo), but it's literally something to improve health and comfort. A standing desk isn't going to make you more lazy, you're literally standing.

We installed about a dozen standing desks at my office. Actually using it in the standing position usually lasts about a month. After that the person is back to sitting 90% of the time anyway. Such a waste of money.

Apparently you didn't read all my posts. I said that department has a track record of requesting needless stuff and the user in question has no official health issues to justify it. Nothing wrong with getting proper protocol confirmations before getting a yes from me.

lol i mean to be fair in the wider scheme of everything, its only a desk which you mentioned you can get someone else to build. i dont see it as a big deal

I have a standing desk, as do many people in my office. And let's be honest, you use it a lot at first and then get lazy. It should be an expense of the employee, unless employers want to require a certain amount of usage.

I can stand up and work just fine without having to use a stand up desk. I don't mind standing up and leaning over to work on my computer for a few minutes. And when I've sat for too long, I go on water breaks or go socialize with people about dumb shit like the weather. Having a standup desk for me personally will prolly not do much for me.

I'd say he's average size. Not too fat, not too skinny. Regardless, if it's factually a health issue then he just needs to follow proper procedure then none of this would have been an issue. Otherwise it just looks to me like people just want to have fancy shit and that will always be a no from me.

I get that standing desks are better for health and TC is clearly having a massive ego trip, squeezing what small, petty amount of joy he can from exercising the minuscule power he has in this world to deny another human being happiness and well-being, but honestly Id find using a computer while standing to be very uncomfortable I think.

My company is going crazy and giving everyone a standing desk who asks now. 1 person started the trend when I first started working there 2 years ago. They were giving one out every now and then when someone would request it but then they recently ordered like 10 at once.

is this an american thing to be so anti-employee over desks and equipment? just so managerment can get a hefty bonus for cost cutting their own departments

Being cost effective is a thing and I don't get quarterly bonuses yet. That's an exec thing which I'm not part of yet.

cost effectiveness is fine but companies actively exploit its workers so i don't feel bad at all for milking them for all its worth. even if that means getting my company to expense me equipment (which i can set up myself)

Most companies are scummy I'll give you that but the company I work isn't scummy at all. If my company was one of those trash scummy companies then yeah I wouldn't give a shit but I actually like and respect my work.

at my old job you had to have a doctors note requiring you to get one. They arent even really hard to get either.

Just go to a chiropractor and say you have back pain because you sit all day. They'll write something up quick.

My perspective is a little different since my clients are small business owners. I realize that employers work a lot harder than employees do, you just dont see all the behind the scenes stuff they do. Im an employee. On a typical 8 hour day, I probably get about 3 hours of work done.
