Actually I do. People think IT is all computers and shit. We deal with literally everything and we see literally everything.

This is a tricky one though because there are evidenced health based concerns with sitting desks and standing desks are becoming more common for ergonomic reasons.

What was the outcome? I wouldn't have picked this as the hill to die on personally.

It's a weird thing TBH. People always say IT are rude and mean and/or they're pushovers. I sinserely try my hardest to balance out whatever the situation calls for.

Maybe but of all the things to battle over, something that could be construed as a reasonable ergonomic request wouldn't be the one I'd go for.

Like if someone was asking for a state of the art macbook for their admin job or a 40 inch monitor for their spreadsheet tasks I would tell them to gtfo, but unsure about this one

The standing desks we have in our office seemed pretty trendy to me. They look slick, and have automatic settings.

I just roam with my laptop if I'm sick of my desk

I'm for it IF it factually makes them more productive, more efficient and if it's a real health issue. If my boss or CEO or HR says do it then I'll to do it no matter what but if it's solely my call then it's a no. It's not personal, it's a rational business call.

It isn't unless your doctor gives you a confirmed written note. Otherwise we'd be giving standing desks, blankets, space heaters, fans, feet stools, etc etc etc to anyone and everyone. And you don't need a standing desk to get up from your chair to stretch.

My company is going crazy and giving everyone a standing desk who asks now. 1 person started the trend when I first started working there 2 years ago. They were giving one out every now and then when someone would request it but then they recently ordered like 10 at once. And they are all sitting in the training room still boxed because most of the company is working from home for the pandemic. Also, one user even said "hmm I don't know if I'll like this, but I just want to try it." I was so annoyed I had to set it up for her.

And the worst part about my company is, a lot of the users have 10 year old (or I guess 11 year old at this point) slow ass computers. They won't buy new computers, but they'll buy equally expensive standing desks on a whim.

Luckily, it's not our (my organization's IT department) responsibility to order or assemble these desks. That all goes to our Facilities department.

You're fighting the wrong battle. You should be fighting for IT to have nothing to do with standing desks. It should be a maintenance/facilities job. Again just because a monitor sits on top of something doesn't make it an IT task.

Mother fuckers can go on smoke breaks, shit breaks, water breaks, coffee breaks, "I need to call someone" breaks any time of the day and as much as they want and they bitching about our company being too uptight. I cannot stand when offices waste money on expensive stuff for no reason. My old manager got like a $300 or more office chair and then he talks about cost saving measures and a budget. Hypocrites. And a few people wanted 2 monitors cause they don't know "alt+tab" and suck at computers.

Yeah... Gonna really have to disagree with this one. At least 2 monitors has been standard everywhere Ive worked. "alt tab" wastes so much damn time when you have to work with 2 or more different programs at the same time

Why are you ik charge of thode purchase decisions as an IT person? The floor manager should be able to get whatever he wants as long as he has DOA or its approved by someone with DOA.

Of course it goes to their budget.

2 monitors is standard. It 100% helps and makes people more productive. Now, asking for 26 inch monitors and an expensive mounting stand for them is another story.

Desk configuration and dressing up cables neatly fell to our responsibilities. Not only that but our team is the only team that effectively keeps up an effective inventory system but I definitely don't want to take care of desks styling anymore.
