I would take you to HR too. If the employee really wants it, they will easily get the note, HR will grant it to avoid problems, and it just will reflect poorly on you for causing friction over something thats rapidly becoming an office standard and wasting everyone's time. It's super easy to get a doctors note for basically any accommodation you want, and sit/stand desks are one of the best investments you can make for quality of life imo. I miss mine so much doing wfh and will probably buy one for myself soon because sitting all day is terrible.

It's SOP to provide a doctor's note for standing desk requests, based on my work experiences. Though I agree that TC probably could've just handled the whole situation like this:

Employee: "Can I get a standing desk?"
TC: "Do you have a doctor's note?"
Employee: "No."
TC: "Pls come back with a doctor's note."

Yeah, 100% that. Doctors will sign off on pretty much anything you ask for. Its simply a speedbump to discourage people who don't want it enough. This is how every accommodation request I've ever seen has gone. OP handled it in a way that just wasted time for everyone involved and hopefully learns something going forward.
